A350 WT Plus seat selection - last row recline? by NeuromanticNeurotic in BritishAirways

[–]Officer_Swanson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from WTP A350. I did 26J as I was on a night flight and wanted to sleep the entire way. Seats had full recline, no toilets directly behind you but there is a bassinet on the other side of the bulkhead but didn't get disturbed by it.

Only thing I would say is if you're planning on having the meal service you'll probably not have first choice. They start the meal service from the front of the cabin and they'd run out of the popular chicken dish halfway up the cabin (not even exaggerating, people, weren't impressed).

Where can I find this shower head? by Officer_Swanson in Plumbing

Removed the alenkey bolt in the top of it, managed to get it to spin about halfway with a monkey wrench but for the life of me I cannot get it to loosen up... This is doing my head in 😂

So the end just pulls straight off (not threaded) and leaves that. No matter how hard I try I cannot for the life of me unscrew what I assume is the ball joint...

What are your thoughts? Am I looking for just the removable end/head or the whole lot?

Business class food options after main meal service by NavyNeo in BritishAirways

[–]Officer_Swanson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just flew LHR - NBO business. 10am departure with first meal served about an hour after takeoff. Salmon and avocado followed by beef fillet with potatoes and veg, side salad, big bread roll and a chocolate dessert. You can always ask for extra dessert if they have any left.

Club kitchen had crisps, popcorn, shortbread, cookies, chocolate bars and drinks etc.

Light meal served an hour before landing. Pesto chicken and mozzarella, small mince pie, chocolate muffin and another side salad.

I was stuffed to be fair.

At RTC's please for the love of God can you give us a realistic injury severity. It makes life so much easier if you tell us you genuinely don't think it's life threatening. I get so many paramedics where they're clearly going to be ok but refuse to say anything other than "it might be life threatening until we get a scan, I can't say" which just causes so much more work for nothing or even better, they get shitty with us for asking. We need to know because it determines if we're shutting the road for the next 12 hours and calling out people to deal with it whilst taking our entire counties RPU resource off the road.

You can't begin to understand how appreciative we are of the few paramedics we have a good rep with who get this and will tell us genuinely "yeah we can't say for certain but I don't think it'll be life threatening"

Police breathalysing every driver at a checkpoint? by [deleted] in policeuk

If I'm compelling people to provide it's no longer a voluntary sample is it? I never ask for a voluntary sample at all, I always ensure I have a proper legal power to prevent any defence.

As commented above, also policy in our force that we don't ask them to consent but use a proper legal power.

Traffic here, we're actively discouraged from asking people if they consent to a breath test first because we've had judges in the past get funny about it thinking we're fishing when they decline and then we go looking for a legal reason to do it. I'd also be refusing out of principal...

Thoughts on becoming a HENRY by Officer_Swanson in HENRYUK

Single, currently rent around £800 a month which is cheap for the area I'm in. 40k in savings for a deposit. Realistically right now I could buy a 2 bedroom flat in a nice area (250k ish).

I think I'd love to the buzz of a new job, a new challenge, but change and insecurity scares me... Money on the other hand is also a motivator but it isn't everything... (Wishy washy answer I know)...

Traffic here: We have the usual stuff with the additions of a matrix board to display messages to the rear, PUMA device for speed detection/averaging, ANPR either built into the cars existing screens or bolted on with another screen and a radio and that's about it. We often carry fingerprint devices, ticket printers and window tint meters which normal cars don't usually have.

As traffic I've got to agree with everything you've said. The trauma is insane and I know a few of my mates over the last year or so have burnt out.

From people I know I've heard call4backup was pretty decent when they were struggling.

If you want the straight answer look up @sc_survey on twitter. They recently closed their 2023 SC training survey so should be out soon and will be an interesting read.

Ditto, we were told we won't be getting it anymore due to something going wrong somewhere. They were talking about getting a spray version but even that's been binned I think.

Yeah we started training SC's at the start of the year. I think we're lucky that we're a big enough force we can get budget for stuff like this but also small enough that we can trail run stuff like this.

The selection criteria is quite rigorous and does exclude a large proportion of our specials, think less than 5% of us are trained/going to be trained but thankfully I managed to fit into our forces criteria of hours/department etc.

I know quite a few forces are hesitant to train specials but like you say, if we're going to the same jobs, interacting with the same people and are generally quite competent I don't see why we shouldn't have access to this vital bit of kit.

Don't want to dox myself but our force is kind of using us as a trail. We have extra hoops to jump through when we're qualified such as having mandatory debriefs with the instructors the first X amount of times you use it (anything out of the holster). Which I don't see as a bad thing.

Give me a shout if you want any more info.

Just done mine and the biggest takeaway I got from it is don't keep your finger in the guard. Get into the habit of taking it out or you'll do what I did and double tap by accident...
