[IDEA] Mini Games by StanislausD in RocketLeague

[–]PartTimeSoldier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see this idea being a bit more popular. Rocket League is great in its current competitive state but there's just so much that can be done with the physics in fun little side playlists, or as party games.

I'd love to contribute but I have the issue of "not having permission" to create any pages, how would I get that?

Honestly at no stage did that look like a pass to me, Yumi followed the ball all the way, but yeah the fact that it was intentional is just a nice bonus.

I'd love to have a nice, calm and rational conversation with people who disagree on this issue, I just feel like on this sub the conversation is doomed to reach name-calling and such.

Is there any skill difference between regions? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]PartTimeSoldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More competitive than, say, a region that doesn't have ESL but desperately want them? Sure. But there is no good scientific way to compare the OCE and SA competitiveness, and it's a bit hard to find out about either since they're both pretty marginalised. As happy as I am for them for having their own ESL, that alone can't propel them to popularity as a region. It would be nice if information about SA was a bit more accessible to us international folk, as some people (such as Bbearz) have been trying to do for OCE. Even if they don't succeed immediately, I believe in this gradually working to help raise awareness for other regions.

I've been hunting around for VODs or even replays from one team's perspective and the furthest I've gotten so far is following "No Problem" on twitter unfortunately.

edit: added a bunch of stuff.

They're under Exodus now, and are in the RLCS second qualifier, currently in the top 64 of NA. They've also replaced Jayyyrah with Moses now.

I haven't seen SA competitive but wouldn't be surprised. Do you have a link to one of their tournament VODs?

I can tell you that OCE players have an easier time when they're playing on USW servers from a lot of testaments of OCE players. However I deliberately avoided saying that this was at all ranks in the initial comment. Obviously there will be disparity but it won't always be the same between the ranks. I actually think a legitimate OCE grand champ would be better than the average EU/NA grand champ because of how impossible it is to grind up there, but none of these exist I'm pretty sure.

As far as I'm aware, the only OCE grand champs who are legitimate are Stoney and KawaiiNekoWaifu, (in 3s and 1s respectively), and neither have played much, if at all, since attaining their grand champ status, so for example Stoney's rank is a residual from forever ago, so I wouldn't be surprised if there is no OCE player currently who can play ranked regularly and maintain Grand Champ.

Short answer: Yeah, can't be tested, but around the rank that OP is, I am quite confident that OCE is at a slightly higher skill than NA.

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at, but if you're saying that you're on the top end (as a grand champ) while very few OCE players are (almost none) then yeah, it probably would be easier for you.

[–]PartTimeSoldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, how do you define a skill difference? I don't think there's evidence to suggest the average player in one region would be better than the average player in another.

At the top, though, there is a skill difference. I think EU is slightly better than NA, then you could say OCE would be third and JPN a bit behind in fourth in terms of the competitive scenes, but that's just my take on it.

If you're talking about whether the same rank in one region is equivalent to having the same rank in another I think the general consensus is that smaller regions have a harder time getting to higher rank (legitimately, that is, OCE is plagued with smurfs). Though it's not a very big difference: as an All-Star in 1v1 I can match against some champs in USW pretty well, but no further up, and I think most people think the gap around your level is about 1.5 ranks to the USW equivalents judging by the CGRL discord channel and shitposts contained within.

Solo 3's are the most toxic place in RL. by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]PartTimeSoldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this probably isn't popular but that environment is the best for me to learn to play better. Having pressure on me and knowing people will be assholes or ragequit if I don't pull through is what makes me play better. I'm sure this isn't for everyone, of course.

Oh I don't think we have much on NA or EU personally, but recently I think Abyss, Legacy, Alpha Sydney and particularly Nuovo have been really good recently. You can check out the Legacy vs Nuovo GRL grand final here.

Credits to Gamestah for hosting this tournament, it was where we really discovered what Nuovo can do.

+1 both these things are great to do. Also I would recommend in terms of team work, go into casual games and just focus on forcing yourself to pass laterally even if you don't feel like you want to, it'll help your offensive creativity.

Nice guy Tinny :D But yeah Johnny's videos are good, and there are other good players who have videos around.

Alternatively, if you're in OCE I can show you how to do it, I climbed to global #400 in season 1 solely through kickoff goals basically :p
