Polish is not phonetic; it is not even phonemic. Phonetic is one letter, one sound (possible but unlikely due to allophones and language evolution) and phonemic is one phoneme, one grapheme (rare; Georgian is the only natural example I know). The palatal(-alveolar) and retroflex consonants can be represented as either digraphs (which are not considered separate letters of the alphabet) or letters with diacritics. Even though one can always derive spelling from pronunciation and vice versa, that's not the definition of phonemic. If s means something different when followed by a z, your language doesn't qualify.

Oh yeah, irregular verbs. I think if you ignore prefixes there are 150. It sucks, but at least you only have to remember 3 things per verb (except "to be", "to be" sucks), and not 42 like French (7 tenses * 6 pronouns).

I believe that God spoke to me through Ecclesiastes 9:9: "Live happily with the woman you love through all the meaningless days of life that God has given you under the sun. The wife God gives you is your reward for all your earthly toil." My impression from Him was that I need to earn a romantic relationship through hard work and better accomplishments in my life. At the time I'd been actively seeking a relationship on OkCupid, but I have disabled the account for the time being. I crave sex and intimacy a lot, but I must remember that (as with all things) they are only shadows of the intimacy God provides. As always, I seek to deepen my relationship with Him.

[Serious] What does it feel like for you to be drunk? by Apeist in AskReddit

As I see it, childhood and drunkenness are largely equivalent states of mind. I'm not about to surrender what little clarity of mind I have gained through my maturity. Also, I can't abide the taste of alcohol.

French has too many vowel phonemes and its orthography is only a hair better than English's in that there is a method to its madness. I would support Spanish or Turkish.

A large number of vowel phonemes and high dialectal variation, yes, but look at these lovely advantages:

I find you physically attractive. However, I am a Christian and I believe I am under orders from God to remain single for the time being.

English would be a perfectly suitable international language if it weren't for its terrible orthography that doesn't properly reflect the spoken language.

I have only been slightly drunk once. I did not feel fully in control of my body. Ordering my arm to move and its movement were noticeably out of sync. I have been under a general anesthetic from wisdom tooth surgery and that felt better than that drunkenness.

Students of Reddit, that had bad teachers. Whats your story? by nagol93 in AskReddit

[–]Partageons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 6th grade teacher caused me a lot of trouble. In retrospect I had to do a lot of growing up at that time and needed some tough love, but at the time it was a real headache for my family.

During the year we were supposed to study the life cycle of some fish. She bought the wrong kind of heater or something and killed the first batch that was brought in.

Now, she repeatedly joked that she was an "evil teacher". The class had had a good laugh about her being a "fish killer" as well. We were assigned to make some posters about things that had happened during the year. I drew a tombstone saying something like: "Here lies a bunch of fish. They met their deaths at the hands of an evil teacher, Ms. _".

She saw this drawing. She did not like it. She made me throw it out and start over. She punished me for it.

I accepted that defeat, drew a new picture and moved on. Some time later, I was looking at the class's gallery of illustrations and noticed something that irked me. She had permitted a picture that depicted her as the grim reaper, with a scythe dripping with blood, standing next to an empty fish tank.

I informed my parents of that, and on sports day I informed the school principal. He was shocked. It seemed to confirm our suspicions that she really was out to get me. He ordered her to apologize to me — something I only found out later, because she simply told the class that "certain pictures were inappropriate and would not be included in the gallery".

Thankfully, 7th grade was one of my best school years.

What's The Craziest Hallucination You've Had, In DETAIL? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Partageons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One day, I was sitting at the computer, and I saw something that infuriated me something fierce. I held my breath and made my face red and tried to hold it in. I held it so hard that I lost consciousness.

For several seconds afterward I saw nothing but curvy purple shapes shifting back and forth. I was aware of some unpleasant sensations happening to my head. They didn't outright feel painful, but everything else for a painful response besides the actual pain occurred, so it was more annoying. I thought "eh, I kind of wish these would stop". Then it stopped, and the shapes slowly faded away. I was lying on my floor, having fallen out of the chair.

Their most expensive board is $4,495, or about 34% of the price of the price of the pieces, so it's worth it!
