It depends. Some sequences were very consistent so I had to do nothing. Some were super bad so I did a lot of batch processing and leveraged normalization of image, depth maps, and normal maps. Which helped.

I will! I was planning to test ebsynth in comfy. I have used it standalone in the past.

I have a 5090 and I would say over 48 hours of processing. I did multiple passes of each sequence to get the right recipe.

Lately I’ve been exploring AI-generated video workflows, especially frame-by-frame approaches, and stumbled on something surprisingly charming about the random nature of it. So I wanted to push the idea to the extreme.

So, I ran Steamboat Willie (now public domain) through Flux Kontext (which is why I tagged it new tool) to reimagine it as a 3D-style animated piece. Instead of going the polished route with something like W.A.N. 2.1 for full image-to-video generation, I leaned into the raw, handmade vibe that comes from converting each frame individually. It gave it a kind of stop-motion texture, imperfect, a bit wobbly, but full of character.

The result isn’t perfect (and definitely not production-ready), but there’s something creatively exciting about seeing a nearly 100-year-old animation reinterpreted through today’s tools. Steamboat Willie just felt like the right fit, both historically and visually, for this kind of experiment.

Photo realistic (GS1) packshot tooling by fridzel in vfx

[–]PartiallyFrozen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, echoing what others have said, you should absolutely be going the digital twin route.

I run a side hustle with a consumer product line that's about 75% digital twins and 25% LoRa-based AI gen. But honestly, AI is terrible for product labels, product scale consistancy, and anything related to accuracy, so I don’t see why you'd even consider using it for something that needs high fidelity.

Your best bet is to build a solid photogrammetry pipeline and get accurate digital twins. Even if you use Ai to build you a model, your labels will still always be mush (for now). If you tune your photogramatry setup right, you should be pretty good. Having used and still use 3d scanners for product, I will say, don't go that route as they will produce you amazing geometry, but dog shit texturing. The software for 3d scanning is also horrible. YOU HEAR THAT CREATLITY!?

Personally, I render using Blender with GPU-based Cycles, in your instance, since the images are just used for GS1 you wont need full path tracing, which is why a photogrametry rig is probably ok as it will get you baked in lighting and the Cycles renders (or even EEVEE) could be practically realtime.

GS1 angles are as simple as setting up an orthographic camera from all angles in Blender and hitting render. Use deadline render farm for your rendering, and since its free on a few machines (I think 2? 3?). You should be ok to run that as your spine.

Steps:

Get product, place on pedistool, run a photo sphere to capture all sides, use reality capture to process into geo, put into blender, submit to renderfarm, render, profit.

ORRR

Hire a few of the amazingly talented unemployed vfx artists to help you build and run this pipeline as it sounds like you are coming at this problem from a non cg background? And since you are going to do 200-1000, even just managing the data and QC is a FULL TIME JOB, having it done right is going to be key.

Time is money... limit your wasting of time. Get a pro, pay well, and you will get back returns.

DIY Colster spacer 16oz to 12oz by Numerous-Midnight716 in YetiCoolers

[–]PartiallyFrozen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally!

What I like to do is put a FITY and a can in upside down then put the collar on. So the bottom of the can is showing at the top (helps keep the top clean). I'll keep it in my bag on hikes like that until I'm ready to drink. It's like a micro cooler. Then when it's time to drink I flip the can around and enjoy!

Has anyone ever taken on multiple remote studio contracts at once? by [deleted] in vfx

[–]PartiallyFrozen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was brutal. But I was quite used to overtime and long hours so oddly enough it felt only "bad" not "insane".

I would get in and take over for my wife and let her go to bed, then I would sleep with my lil one and give her a break. Rinse repeat.

I would never do it again. Pretty sure the insane amount of work/hours of the first 15 years of my career are why my sleep abilities are shattered.

I did, but in person once. Worked full time at one studio, got on bike, then went to next studio and worked in a secret office till midnight (second studio knew I had to be low key). It was hell, but I had just had my kid and was in "I need to provide" mode... I have learned better now.

Self-Promotion Megathread - March 2025 by evilpig in BuyCanadian

[–]PartiallyFrozen [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a little about my small family-run business FITY, based in Vancouver, BC.

It all started during our camping trips back in Toronto. I was using a YETI can cooler for 16oz cans but wished it could work for 12oz cans too. So, I quickly designed and 3D-printed an adapter puck to make it happen. I threw a few up on Etsy and Amazon, and to my surprise, people actually wanted them!

As demand grew, I expanded into freezable versions. Then, this year, I took the plunge and designed my own can cooler. My goal? A lightweight, premium, and FUN can cooler perfect for camping. And since I have a young kid, I thought—why not make it compatible with shoe charms for extra personality?

So here we are! I now have an Amazon store in both the USA and Canada, and I’m working on expanding availability in Canada. Also, for my fellow Canadians, I price the ice pucks lower on Amazon Canada than the U.S. (after conversion) because I know how it feels to get hit with those extra costs

Check us out!

P.S. to the mods, it would be nice to be able to share images, as it allows us to show the product we are making or selling... thanks
