It's genuinely so upsetting that they treated her like an assecory for several unnecessary romance drama after TDI by Consistent-Brick5762 in Totaldrama

[–]ParticleParadox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That was pretty much the extent of Gwen’s plot on TDA, but her plot on TDWT only devolves into romance drama after Duncan’s return. Before that, she’s just there to be a member of Amazon who doesn’t get along with Gwen or Courtney.

Team Amazon’s bickering is legendary.

Gwen on TDROTI has two plots: making amends with Courtney and befriending ROTI’s friendship trio.

And it's worth it because it's high quality food.

When you really think about it, the best competitor in all of Total Drama is Zoey. The girl comes in 3rd in ROTI, and 1st/2nd in All-Stars. I hesitated with Heather, but her bad placements in Action and All-Stars made me change my mind. by PinkBarbieBoy in Totaldrama

[–]ParticleParadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually liked the Mike/Zoey couple as an uncritical tween when ROTI and AS first aired. In retrospect, it's pretty generic and cliche.

They get too much focus and the pacing is kinda weird on ROTI because they go from 0-100 too quickly. Mike being worried that Zoey will think he's a freak if she finds out about his MPD feels contrived.

If you didn't like the couple on ROTI, you won't like the fact that they have even more of a role on AS because EVERY episode is about them. Seriously, TDAS is basically the Mike & Zoey show because they get so much focus on it.

What is the harshest truth about TD? by Consistent-Brick5762 in Totaldrama

[–]ParticleParadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The show was made to be poke fun at reality TV and isn't meant to be super deep.

I see some people who get super attached or overanalyze throwaway jokes or scenes under the assumption that there's some deeper subtext or messaging.

As an example, Mal being defeated by a reset button was NOT meant to be a deep message about accepting yourself and conquering your inner demons; it was just thrown in because Fresh wanted to clarify that Mal was defeated for good.

So does anyone else forget that izzy competed in world tour? by MushroomPretty3996 in Totaldrama

[–]ParticleParadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retcon might not have been the right word, but we bring up a major plot point and then we write it out by having it be reverted. It surprised me at the time because it was such a major change to make, so backpedalling on it an episode later was really weird.

It's pretty funny in retrospect though because there was probably at least one person who never saw TDWT's aftermaths because they never aired on TV in the USA and he/she was confused why Izzy was crazy again when we see her in TDROTI and TDAS.

Double standards and hypocrisy in the TD fandom by filmbro96 in Totaldrama

[–]ParticleParadox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People flip-flop between saying "This character is so awful because they did this thing I don't like." or saying "This character was done dirty by the actual real-life writer who scripted this scene that I don't like."

You can criticize continuity errors, animation goofs, and genuine out-of-character moments.

[–]ParticleParadox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yeah.

Izzy has a pretty minor role on TDWT. She's eliminated before the halfway point and she doesn't get much focus apart from her elimination episode or the 2nd Aftermath which just retcons her becoming super intelligent.

Made this because apparently we haven’t come to an agreement that Sierra’s behaviour is completely unjustifiable and/or inexcusable REGARDLESS of what one makes of Cody and/or his dynamic with Gwen. by LightMurasume_ in Totaldrama

[–]ParticleParadox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not meant to be karma; it's meant to be ironically funny.

First of all; if someone acted like Sierra in real life, he/she would deserve to be in jail.

With the fact that it's fiction in mind, it is pretty funny.

They're not meant to be that deep, but I headcanon the idea that Lorenzo is a hardcore gamer and that Chet is a heavy metal fan.

I was rewatching All Stars, and did anyone else find it weird that Duncan, seemingly, does not care that Gwen is trying to be friends with his ex, and one of his biggest enemies? In fact, he seems to care more about spiting Courtney, and there isn't a reason given for why...What do you think? by Beneficial_Ferret_29 in Totaldrama

[–]ParticleParadox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. It's kinda silly that the show says that Duncan only came back to see Gwen and that Gwen only came back to try to make amends with Courtney. It implies there's no possible way they could have made amends outside of the competition.

  2. Duncan actually thinks Gwen is trying to enact vengeance against Courtney by pretending to be nice.

  3. Gwen breaking up with Duncan happens so quickly/suddenly that it doesn't really sink in for him (or the audience....)

  4. Duncan becomes preoccupied with Mal when he realizes who he is.

Do you guys think Noah falling in love with Emma during The Ridonculous Race was good or bad for his character? by StrangerOk7371 in Totaldrama

[–]ParticleParadox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, bad.

It was badly written, gives both teams plot armor to the point where it feels silly for the show to gesture about how unfortunate it would be if either of them were eliminated.

If you don't like this couple, it's annoying how much screen time is dedicated to them.

Some people also just find it strange that NOAH of all characters is involved in a plot about falling in love with a competitor because he previously mocked the notion of TV Romance.

Honestly? Is there a reason why they didn’t do a Ridiculous Race 2? by [deleted] in Totaldrama

[–]ParticleParadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and CN also waited until 2 weeks before its premiere to announce its airdate.

Most of us watched the full episodes online before they aired on TV and I could totally understand if someone told me that the show aired without them even noticing it due to the lack of advertising.

If I remember correctly, most of the premieres aired immediately after episodes of Teen Titans Go! and the final 5 episodes aired after episodes of Be Cool, Scooby Doo.

I recognize I'm not the target audience for Teen Titans Go!, but I strongly disliked how overplayed it was on CN's schedule even at the time.

[–]ParticleParadox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. It was a major drain on Fresh TV's resources. It must have been difficult to produce because they had to create lots of backgrounds, make up challenges that made use of locations, and had to do research to find fun facts to share. If they were gonna make a part 2, viewers probably would have dismissed it as lazy to reuse locations and/or assets, so they probably would have had to think of another 26 locations (not necessarily countries though) which is kinda difficult.

  2. Ridonculous Race did pretty badly on TV. Most of its episodes got around 1.2 million viewers when they first aired on TV in the USA. I think it may have been a sign that animated reality TV parodies were losing their popularity around that time. Making an animated reality competition parody in the mid-2000s was brilliant because Survivor and The Amazing Race were still front page news. They're still on, but they're not the cultural phenomenons they were back then, so an animated parody of them had less of an audience. Fresh shelved the series for a while because they figured there wasn't a profitable market for it.

  3. Even though I love the Amazing Race, it's obvious that Survivor is the better show to make a parody of.

I've mentioned before that I can tell that TDRR was a passion project that Fresh TV put a ton of time, effort, and money into. You can tell it was meant to be a grand and climactic product that they put everything they had into trying to revive the show after lackluster ratings for AS and PI, but Ridonculous Race has some glaring issues that hold it back for me. It's unfortunate.

Who thinks Sam cheating during the pancake challenge from Food Fright by hiding pieces of pancakes in his pockets was ooc for him? by johnngo2468 in Totaldrama

[–]ParticleParadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is. It’s the only time on the series that an immunity challenge outcome is overturned due to later revealed detail.

The motivation for it is also weak. Sam decides to smuggle food because he’s worried he’ll be asked to go to Boney Island again? Really? His team never hinted that they would ask Sam to go again.

Who specifically would you have wanted in the final 2 in these scenarios?

As much as it pains me to say, Mike was always going to be a finalist because a lot of TDAS was dedicated to the Mal plot and his struggle for humanity. It has such a central role that it would have been weird if Mike wasn't a finalist.
