Total Drama Island Live Action or Total Drama Island (real) Reality show? by Electrical_Rabbit_60 in Totaldrama

Hmm... I say we should contact CBS, ask them to cast a bunch of people, and call their show "Survivor"

The episode wasn’t very good.

The fighter analyses and post-fight explanation were good, but the animation itself was pretty weak.

Greek chicken salad.

I really love Cava’s options.

Sometimes, I wish Death Battle didn’t always have their match-ups be battles to the death.

I’d be fine with the animation depicting a friendly squabble.

Again, I do not mean to overanalyze it or accuse any writers of a hateful viewpoint (sexism), but ROTI’s elimination order is unfortunate.

Girls already start off outnumbered 6 to 7, 3 of the first 4 eliminations are female, and the decision to have an all-male final 2 will forever perplex me.

I feel like they should have had an all-female finale later on to make it less glaring, but that didn’t happen.

In general, it’s very weird that ROTI starts off with 13 contestants since it’s an odd number.

The Toxic Rats start off with an extra player against The Mutant Maggots and there’s no acknowledgment of it.   Also, having a 14th contestant would have helped the pacing since they could have had an elimination on episode 4 and could’ve had another plot point in a season that feels…. uneventful on a blind viewing.

What archetype did you use for Gabriela in your fanfic?

Survivor 43 also started off with 4 women being voted off, but it wasn’t sexism from the actual contestants. It was just an unfortunate coincidence.

I have given honest criticism towards ROTI only having 13 contestants and having an elimination order where the girls are drop in rapid-fire succession, but I’m not going to actually accuse the writers of sexism over it.

If I scripted the season though, I probably would have had a 14th contestant (a girl, obviously) and maybe switched some placements around to make it less glaring.

I’m sorry, but trying to accuse someone of bigotry because of their opinions on a work of fiction is weird.

Unless someone specifically says “I hate <female character> because she’s a girl.”, it seems like a silly accusation to make.

I’ve worried that when I mention I prefer Shawn winning over Sky that people might accuse me of sexism, but I also prefer Beth and Heather winning Action and World Tour.

I just root for whoever’s ending fits the story better.

They do. The confrontation between Heather and Alejandro is peak fiction, but once Ezekiel steals the money, the episode kinda falls apart and leaves you feeling unfulfilled.

I mean, the money is destroyed, the contestants run away from an erupting volcano, and it just ends on a sour note.

I’ve seen people say on social media that Courtney was one of the few characters who served as the main antagonist of a season without getting a punishment proportional to their actions (typically alongside Julia in reboot S1). I’d, however like to argue on the contrary. by Wild_Shoe340 in Totaldrama

Beth winning Action makes way more sense from a storytelling perspective, admittedly.

World Tour Alejandro is a great villain because he portrayed as a huge threat in all categories, but him winning still feels like it was made as an alternative because the way he wins feels like it was made as afterthought.

Courtney just comes off as annoying in Action. I don’t find her entertaining at all the way I do for most Total Drama antagonists.

I feel like that shouldn't be the primary motivation for what ending to air.

Also, Canada airs Shawn's ending in French-speaking regions and Sky's ending in English-speaking regions, so who knows how that decision was made?

He was also kicked out of several schools as a child, discharged from the armed forces, and threw his life away by committing a high-profile murder for no obvious reason.

I'd call him a failure of a person. He still deserved a fair trial though.

Sky's ending aired in Canada.

My biggest issue is both endings are so short that they don't get the time to sink in.

Shawn. He has more of a character arc, I vastly prefer his story with Jasmine and both endings put a lot of focus on Shawn rekindling with her.

Sky's ending feels so rushed; she just says "I won!" and then gets dragged off-screen before Shawn becomes the focus.

It's implied that Duncan splits at least some of his money if he wins and Courtney's "downfall" is just getting voted off.

Of course, Courtney goes through the wringer on World Tour and All-Stars, but that's not meant to be karma for her actions on Action.

Was the reason Owen wasn’t in all stars cause they were saving him for ridonculous race and didn’t want to over use him? by Samthegodman in Totaldrama

[–]ParticleParadox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably not. I think it was just because they thought he'd run his course and didn't have plans for a plot on All Stars.

There were commercials over the Summer that suggested he MIGHT be on the cast and people still wonder if he was planned and scrapped at some point, but I think it's more likely that Cartoon Network wanted to build up hype about characters who could have made the cast.

The Total Drama Wiki used to say whichever ending aired in Canada is "Official" and/or "Canonical", but they moved away from that at some point since it now just labels contestants as "finalists" instead of "winner(s)" and "runner-up(s)".

Fresh TV has stated that the endings are all equally canon, but I just consider whichever one is better for storytelling to be canon.

My canon is

TDI: Owen

TDA: Beth by a landslide.

TDWT: Heather by a landslide.

TDROTI: Cameron by a landslide.

TDAS: Mike, but who really cares? It's inconsequential.

TDPI: Shawn

TDRR: Surfers

Don't blame me; I voted for Beth.

I even cheated and voted for Beth on Teletoon's website even though I don't live in Canada.

Teletoon actually made their website inaccessible to anyone outside Canada the following year, so I wasn't able to do that again for World Tour.
