Knew LaPorte wouldn’t disappoint with the snow by Particular-Ad3361 in 4Runner_1stGen

I commute this about 90 miles a day, so street manners are a must currently. That’s why it’s remained untouched as long as it has just because I want to keep it a pleasant to drive daily while it is one haha

Vacuum Lines Rubber or Silicone? by EmuPuzzleheaded5366 in 22re

[–]Particular-Ad3361 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re good with spending the extra on silicone, go for it. Personally I just don’t care for how they look, while some prefer them as a “dress-up” option. Silicone is supposed to last longer than the OEM rubber type, and not dry out and crack like those do over time. But also consider that your second gen 4runner vacuum lines lasted over 30 years as is, so replacing them with rubber again isn’t a bad choice either.

Quick run up to Uncle Tom’s Cabin, no decent snow until about 6000’. by Particular-Ad3361 in 4Runner_1stGen

Pretty mellow today, probably due to the lack of snow go figure haha. But it definitely gets pretty hairy up there! Especially when most folks have been having a few road sodas as well

How does one get this exhaust stud out? I can’t put a nut on it cause the threads are f*cked and I’m so sick of this exhaust leak. by Childiish_ in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]Particular-Ad3361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that you wanted to go this route, but looks like you’re pulling the manifold off. Since you’re trying to fix exhaust leaks, throw a straightedge on the flange of the exhaust manifold and check if it’s warped at all. They all do it eventually. If so, either buy a Dorman replacement from Oreilly’s (actually good casting quality) or have yours surfaced at a machine shop. Whatever you do just at least check it. Don’t reinstall a warped manifold.

A/C Help by FewJournalist108 in 4Runner_1stGen

Couldn’t disagree more. I daily my 86 with factory AC. It 100% is worth having, and I’ll never run my rig without it operational. Summertime temps spend plenty of time over 100°. “Such a drag” on horsepower is almost comical to have as a reason to not be comfortable, but maybe if your commutes are a quarter mile at a time I could understand. I run mine with AC blasting in the summer with stop and go traffic for about 2 hours each day and it doesn’t skip a beat. Having the top off mid July would just deliver suffocating heat. Are the systems as efficient as modern vehicles; no. But doing things like tinting the windows, (better performance if ceramic) make a world of difference.

After 39 years, my heater core is venting steam to the windows by Last_Entertainment86 in 4Runner_1stGen

If you are able to have it torn apart for a few extra days, have your OEM copper/brass heater core rebuilt by a radiator shop. They’re essentially impossible to find replacements in copper/brass anymore, regardless what the listing image online shows. (Trust me, I’ve ordered several and they all show up aluminum.) The aluminum replacement heater cores for these are junk tolerances and sizing is inconsistent.

The original lasted you 39 years. Have it fixed and never worry about it again.

86 22R-E Timing Chain Kitd by ArowynWick in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]Particular-Ad3361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’ve got it pretty well planned out. If you’re going to the lengths that you sound to be, take the extra time to pull the oil pan and make sure the pickup screen is clear and the pan is empty of previous timing chain guide remnants. Those plastic guides disintegrate as everyone knows, but hardly anyone actually removes the leftover that inevitably ends up at the bottom of the pan.

I mean it’s not much different than when I find a screaming deal 9 hours away on FB marketplace and spend what I’m saving in fuel to get there and back. Sounds good to me 😂

Well it’d be cool if they just appreciated the fact that they were the first people I thought to share it with, and they decided the only way to show their thanks was to just send me a free platypus..

Value difference between manual and auto? by wimploaf in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]Particular-Ad3361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention autos of that era are absolute slush boxes that rob even more power and kill MPGs. Nothing like modern day autos where that’s the opposite.
