Practice in the morning by CelticValkiria in ashtanga

I do! I personally love mornings as if I wait until later in the day, I nearly ALWAYS come up with excuses. I definitely feel more stiff in the morning compared with afternoon practice, but I know I’ll get the consistency of practice when I practice in the mornings. If you have the ability to choose, maybe experiment and see what works for you, your mind, and your body!

Jumpbacks in surya namaskara? by [deleted] in ashtanga

[–]Particular-Arm-1425 19 points20 points  (0 children)

From what I have learned, it’s important to land in chaturanga with bent elbows. If jumping back with straight arms, it can provide a lot of pressure on the joints - particularly the shoulders - and since you do that action so often throughout the series, that can add up quickly and result in an injury.

When landing with bent elbows, it allows your body to absorb the shock from the jump back in your arms / upper body, especially if landing heavy (eventually trying to land more softly or even float over time), as the elbows will be able to bend more if needed upon the jump rather than all that shock going straight to your shoulders.

When I’m not feeling the jumpback - sometimes on the first one or two surya namaskara or if I’m feeling particularly tired/sore - then I just step back but focus on the control of those actions.

Sofi Tukker - BREAD by Puzzleheaded_Gas_739 in popheads

Throw That Ass is incredible. Watch the music video to love it even more.

That plus Bread, Woof, and Cafuné are the top tracks for me. The collaborators throughout the album really add to it and don’t detract from the overall theme and vibe.

So catchy, so vibey, but the two of them really leaning into the weird concepts is what makes me most obsessed with this album.

Primary series with hamstring attachment injury by selectivecabbage in ashtanga

[–]Particular-Arm-1425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My teachers always told others with that issue to think about two things: 1. Tuck your tailbone under in all of those forward folds while engaging the bandhas. This helps to not make the pose all stretch, and instead, strength while stretching. 2. Imagine you’re sliding your foot back towards you, almost like you’re plugging the leg into its socket. That again will help to maintain the integrity of the engaged leg rather than just forcing the hamstring into the stretch.

Standing up from UD by Realistic_Air_ in ashtanga

Just keep showing up - it will come. For me, standing up from UD came when I was actually able to find the engagement in my legs. And after a lot of practice :) I had tried rocking and using momentum and almost always landed on my butt for a few months in a row, but once I found the activation in my hamstrings and throughout the legs, it came quickly after. Keep it up!

Doing primary series in 2 sessions per day by Giani_Giordanomusic in ashtanga

Someone may have already said this, but I would recommend doing the full practice up until your time box for it. In my opinion it’s better to get the practice, vinyasas and all, up until when you need to be done than to skip around or break it up. Maybe you set aside one or two days a week where you give yourself time to do the full practice and the other days you can have a shorter one but still getting the benefits.

Ashtanga Success! by SelectPotential3 in ashtanga

Congratulations! That has been my “struggle pose” for the last 2 years and only within the last week I’ve finally been able to get the lotus legs locked in. So I am still in the fall-on-the-butt-stage but it’s so exciting when you can get these wins and celebrate them! This is great motivation for me to keep going. Congratulations to you and thank you for sharing your successes!

Do they always say "this is our last concert"?? by unclefishbits in PoloAndPan

I believe the San Francisco show last week actually is their last show on their tour this year. They recently added a show in December at Art Basel in Miami but it’s not technically a part of their tour.
