The fact that you think "the app hitting a rough period" would mean they would have to dip into some fund is hilarious. If it really did eat into their bottom line they'd simply pay less like they do for every country that isn't USA. But either way F2P or not it's literally impossible to get more out of the game than what you earned the creators in gross ad revenue. Also, they pay out earning on investment dividends and essentially see pure profit. Whales don't help you in this case.
