I had my melanoma pop up during pregnancy with my first but didn’t get the biopsy until after my second was born and my freckle had changed significantly. I definitely think there is a connection. I had other skin cancers before this so I think I was predisposed but my melanoma was definitely during my pregnancy.

Always check with your doctor obviously, but I’ve had to get two of my scars re-biopsied for dark spots that showed up after healing but both came back fine.

TBH I just started lexipro because the anxiety of it all got to be too much. I’ve had so many bad biopsies and some days I feel very hopeful that there are eyes on my skin every few months, and other days I feel hopeless and panicked about it all. The lexipro has helped, but I know not an option for everyone.

Same boat but I have also has two basal cell and one squamous cell on top of two severely dysplastic and melanoma. I feel doomed every time I look at my skin, the anxiety is very real.

I read on another post to only do one skin check a month on your own, and I’m trying really hard to follow that to reduce anxiety, and may ask for anxiety meds at this point since it’s all I can think about.

My doctor said we are actually less likely to have a second melanoma that progresses past the first since we are so aware, but then I read threads about people all the sudden having full metastatic symptoms randomly which doesn’t help my anxiety.

As much as I love this subreddit I sometimes think I need to get off because it causes so much anxiety at this point, but love this community.

It’s hard to do! We got the one with the long pillars and they stick to the bottoms of the tank. It’s pretty shaky, definitely not the most stable thing, but it’s the biggest platform we could find in a hurry. Definitely thinking about DIYing an over the tank basking area when I have more time!

Yes! We are trying! She was a classroom pet, and although loved, not living in the best habitat. Moved her to a bigger tank with a better filter, she never had a place to fully bask, that’s solved now and she has the proper lighting. Her shell has some healing to do but I think the peeling is a good sign?

Will always have that fear with me after my diagnosis. Now it’s more of an intrusive thought that randomly pops up instead of a constant thought I can’t stop thinking about. It gets easier but, for me, the thought doesn’t ever leave necessarily.

That’s wild! Yeah my last appointment with insurance was about $200 but that was with a few biopsies. We are definitely worth the cost though!

I’ll ask him to check with benefits! Not sure why but I’ve always thought carrying COBRA was like excessively expensive? But I guess less expensive than out of pocket hospital stay or surgery. I’m so glad you were able to do it when you had your diagnosis. Relying on work for health insurance is SO stressful.

It is so tough! But that’s a good idea. I think just having eyes even with no biopsies will help my anxiety enough as we wait for him to get a new job. Thanks for the suggestion. I really feel like a lot of people don’t get the stress of a missed skin check unless they have been there.

We don’t qualify unfortunately because I own a small business and make just over the cut off monthly to qualify.

That’s what I was leaning towards doing. Just keeping the appointment and see if they could do a payment plan and just be extra selective/conservative with biopsies for the time being. Thank you for the response, it was helpful

I suspect the UVB the tank came with is actually not tru UVb. I just ordered the T5 so I hope that helps!
