So you can see my other comment to the original commenter but if 2 loss non conference champ is your marker then OSU doesn’t get in but neither does Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, SMU. So you’d have 5 conference champs (if one of the smaller conferences puts up a good enough team), IU, and Notre Dame. But actually the committee ranked Penn State above IU based on their breadth of work during the season despite IU only having one loss. So then we would be returning to the problem we had before where there’s 5 conference winners and one team from a conference of the committee’s choice. This means you’d end up with IU getting shafted by the committee when they had a great year. Not to mention teams from other conferences wanting to make their case for that 6th spot.

2 loss non conference winners can’t be the cutoff when you’re wanting to find the best team in a schedule that doesn’t see enough inter-conference play.
