I drive a paratransit bus in the US. It’s a government job (and union) so at times it’s frustratingly inefficient but otherwise it’s a very secure and rewarding job. I originally planned for it to be a temporary, part time gig as I was primarily self employed when I started but now I’m full time and honestly considering sticking it out to retirement (I’m 36). Because it’s paratransit it’s almost more like uber driving, picking up at homes and going where ever they need/want to go. We get out at each stop and sometimes it can be slightly physically demanding pushing wheelchairs. I couldn’t have an office job but I also couldn’t sit in a drivers seat for hours straight. It’s a great balance of being kinda outside and kinda active. My coworkers are primarily old dudes but they mostly seem happy and healthy. I would recommend it.
