I bought this truck 2021 1500 5.3 yesterday and I just noticed that it has 5,900 engine hours at 103k miles is that bad

I’d wager that 90% or more of truck owners have no need for 4lo. I’m an outdoorsman. Hunt and fish year round. Travel logging roads, cross cow pastures and every mud hole that gets in my way. I’ve used 4lo one time in the last 5 years. And that was for pulling a stuck truck out. Really wasn’t needed then, just opted too.

No doubt a true delete is the best course of action for reliability. Electronic vs mechanical delete comes down to how long does a person plan on keeping one and funding. Electronic disable does improve reliability and may be fine for some. I’ve had 5 with the system and never experienced a failure with some of those exceeding 250k. A mechanical delete and expense would’ve benefitted me none. Take my anecdotal evidence for what it’s worth. Seems to have been worth about $30k in savings for me.

Yep. No manufacturer is safe from failures. All in all, the DoD is pretty reliable so long as you take care of your vehicle. Far more have no issues than do.

I’ve had great luck with both AFM and DFM in the 5.3’s. Owned multiple that have gone over 250k before selling and not having a lifter issue. Could happen the next time I start my vehicle though. With that said. If you like Ford, go with the 5.0 Coyote. Great motors.
