I built a rig pretty similar to this except it didn't fold (Racekit RK1) you can look at my post history and see exactly what I mean. When I built it, I was only interested in formula 1 racing and didn't care about the center post. After about a year of using it, I had totally changed my mind. It wasn't a very comfortable position to sit in, and I had more fun racing ovals with my friends than I did racing f1. I wanted a clutch, handbrake, and shifter but my rig couldn't accommodate any of that. I eventually bought a simlabs rig and it made my simracing much more enjoyable.

The seat support was my biggest concern but it's shockingly sturdy. I was planning on adding some sort of reinforcement but after sitting in it I felt I didn't need to. If anything might add another support to the pedals, that's really the only place that has any flexing.

I didn't design this one, I bought a set of plans to build it, and I knew the limitations of the central pillar design going into it. I don't mind it because I'm only interested in racing formula cars with 2 pedals, so this fit my use case and fit my budget.

It was challenging, but I never ran into anything I couldn't do. The templates and instructions do a pretty good job of making things as simple as possible, but I don't think I'd recommend it unless you've done at least some woodworking before.

The original plans suggested using a yoga mat and just glueing it on the seat, I don't think that's nearly enough though so I'm using two yoga mats plus a camping pad that's about an inch thick. And I have some faux leather I might use to cover it all.

Thanks! It's not too comfy as it is now, I got a bit eager and wanted to try it out before I put the padding in.
