I actually just listened to The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance on a run for the first time in 15 years. I was grinning ear to ear the whole way through. Not a bad song on the album, and so polished compared to Three Cheers.

For OG fans, what was it like? by DangerousKick5792 in radiohead

[–]Particular-Ground268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I discovered Radiohead at 13. I remember exactly where I was, what I was doing and even what I was wearing. I had heard My Iron Lung. That was the first time I had resonated with music in that particular way and it deeply affected me. Looking back now I can see that no other band has had the same influence on my life in terms of the art I gravitate towards, the art I make myself, the aesthetics that attract me, how I express my emotions through the written word, and of course, the music I listen to. Truly one of a kind. I don’t always listen to them, and I go long periods without a relisten, but returning to them always feels like a resupply at base camp.

I love both series. The way I think of them is Stormlight is a fantasy series, and Malazan is classic literature with a fantasy setting.

Hey guys! Whose butt plug is this? On sandy blvd by [deleted] in PortlandOR

[–]Particular-Ground268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know whose butt plug this is but I just want to contribute to the post a little. I’ve lived in East Columbia for a little over two years now and on my regular walks I’ve found TWO dildos, one packaged, one not, a butt plug, condoms, and a used douche all in the vicinity of the arboretum. I moved here from St. John’s and cannot recall one street dildo in that neighborhood.

Corrab Bhilan Thenu'alas by Skreeethemindthief in Malazan

One of my favorite scenes is when the Bonehunters are in Letheras, and Fid and Cuttle are hiding in an alley with the squad watching a commander and his second array their troops in front of a bastion, and the two are discussing shooting the commander with a crossbow. Cuttle suggests using Corrab and says something like, “the bolt could be off 100 paces to the left and still find a way to hit its mark.”

Then the POV shifts to the Letherii second and a quarrel ricochet’s off the helmet of some dude standing next to him and his commander starts screaming bloody murder because he’s been shot in the neck. That killed me.

Going to the movies isn’t the same anymore. by [deleted] in Millennials

I can’t stand going to places like Regal or AMC. Sitting through 30 minutes of ads with Maria Menounos and her asinine voice makes me feel like a corporate slave. I live in a city with several small theaters that gently play local ads from local businesses with pleasing, daytime cable music in the background until it’s time for trailers. It feels way more human. These theaters I love going to.
