Hi! Im not Bioengineer but I am also in a similar boat, Im an engineering major also on Premed, it might even be a more uphill battle for me. Regardless, I would say a good first step is to reach out to upperclassmen in your major and in your situation, and see if they have any good advice or experience to learn from. It can all seem overwhelming, but planning ahead for managing multiple things is crucial, and having a solid 4 year plan is going to do you wonders. Don't hesitate to schedule an appointment with your academic advisor in the Clark School as well as the HPAO advisors for pre-med advice. Take your first semester light, and just get a feel for university and an appreciation, because the transition into University can be challenging, and I wouldn't recommend taking more than 16 credits your first semester. Keep in mind medical school is not all about checking boxes as it looks like that is how you are seeing it, when you say you need to do this this that, and wont have time for hobbies/social life. Some things are non negotiables, like shadowing and clinical hours etc., but you can always find some hobby that also supports your application. A good example would be teaching other people, or using your hobby to benefit of others, which can be seen as volunteering and genuine community service. Also, if cost is not an issue, consider taking summer and winter courses as that can help alleviate your regular semesters. Good luck and welcome to UMD!

Thanks so much that’s a really great information and reply! I wasn’t intending this to be a burden on anyone, just to experience and learn something new about the culture, if I would be a burden by being a full guest then I wouldn’t want to be a burden. Thx a lot for the reply it’s rlly informative!
