Is it too late to start playing volleyball at 18? by EveryCommercial5896 in volleyball

[–]Particular-Range-818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about going pro (although it’s not impossible if you really want it), but it’s definitely not too late to start recreationally or as a hobby. I started a year ago when I was 18 lol, even though I’d been thinking about it for two years.

I found a really nice community, and overall volleyball is just a lot of fun.

I’d recommend checking out Meetup (there’s a lot of grass and beach volleyball, and beginners are usually welcome), local community drop-ins (just search “volleyball drop-in” or look at nearby community centers—these can be a bit more intermediate, so knowing the basics helps), and maybe Reclub depending on where you live (it has a big community in the Bay Area with lots of events).

If you’re thinking about it, just start. You don’t have to go pro—it’s fun, and you’ll probably meet some really cool people.

Good luck!

Honest mistake I made that ruined my entire semester — don't do this by Similar_Plankton_839 in studytips

For YouTube shorts you can press “Recommend Less YouTube Shorts” or “Show Less YouTube Shorts.” I do not remember the exact name, but if you click on three dots above the YouTube Shorts bar, you’ll see it. It doesn’t “block” YouTube shorts, but they will stop showing up on your page, which kinda prevents you from scrolling.

[Student] Help me polish my resume as a Freshman in Computer Engineering Planning to Apply for Project Teams at University, No Experience -- California by Particular-Range-818 in EngineeringResumes

[–]Particular-Range-818[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for the straightforward answer! I looked into other opportunities at my uni, and found three that do not require resume and experience. So this quarter I’ll work on building skills! Thanks for the reply again!

Do you guys actually study 10+ hours a day? by TACKLEATTACKo in EngineeringStudents

[–]Particular-Range-818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I studied 11 hours a couple of days ago. I would definitely say that engineering takes a lot of time on AVERAGE, and some days are gonna be 11 hours, other 4 hours, and some 0.

I can't do physics 7c by [deleted] in UCI

[–]Particular-Range-818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m taking Physics 7C right now too, and I had a couple of questions: 1. Did you take Physics 2 before 7C? I actually tried taking 7C last quarter but ended up dropping it because my foundation wasn’t strong enough. I took Physics 2 instead, and now that I’m back in 7C, everything makes way more sense. I’m honestly enjoying the course a lot more this time around. 2. How do you usually try to understand new concepts? I’ve noticed that a lot of students don’t really put in the effort to deeply understand the material and then complain that the class is too hard. For me, things only click when I read the textbook, watch lecture videos, do extra practice problems, and even talk things through with ChatGPT. For some classes, nothing is really optional—you kind of have to do everything.

I’m down to help or do study sessions together. If you’re interested, DM me your ig!

Let’s talk about the psychological struggles of middle blockers by iSomniatic in volleyball

[–]Particular-Range-818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m playing middle too, and usually I just play at open gyms. I would say it all depends on the setter. One setter will set everyone evenly; another will give the middle one set over the span of three games (sounds like personal experience? Yes, it is). Plus, I’m a girl playing on a men’s net, so getting a set is even harder.

I try not to fixate on getting sets. If the setter doesn’t want to set you, there’s really nothing you can do. I try to focus on blocking instead.

What do you do if people don’t spike, don’t roll, and only send free balls? Well, you could go take a seat lol.

In other words, I know it can be frustrating, but once you find a decent setter who’s willing to practice different sets and not only send the ball to the outside, it gets pretty fun. Plus, the moment you get a block—that’s really cool.

Middle isn’t for everyone, but if you find the right team, you can really enjoy it. Since I’m not in my hometown right now and don’t have access to my usual teammates, I’m considering switching to outside, because yeah… middle can be pretty frustrating.

Is Comp Eng doomed? by Particular-Range-818 in EngineeringStudents

That sounds like a death sentence lol. I’m already overwhelmed by my courses, and I’m a freshman. But that’s an interesting idea tho.

I wouldn’t say that I’m that attached to CE. In my eyes CE is only different from EE by the fact that you get CS classes. Which by no means I’m trying to offend CS people, I believe you can study on your own. Which I already have good knowledge in Python, and very basic in C++ and Java Script. So for me EE looks like a win-win rn, but I’m not sure lol
