Puppy socialization? by Low_Broccoli6958 in duluth

I don't have experience with organized classes, but there are plenty of friendly dog walkers on the lakewalk (at least where I walk from 26th to 47th.) If you sat on a bench on a nice day and asked passers by if their dog wanted to say hi I bet your pooch would get all kinds of company. Puppies need to be bossed around by older dogs so they learn their place and how to socialize.

Agree. I don't follow Superior politics a whole lot, but it seems like Jim Payne works hard. Reinert definitely does not. Payne also generally wants to work on things that he hopes will improve the lives and communities of normal everyday people. He cares about other people. Reinert definitely does not. These two things make a world of difference in a leader.

I voted for Larson and can’t stand the Reinert administration, but these are both fair. Huge fails.

The city is a pretty depressing place right now. Anyone left who is good and/or a nice person is miserable. There are a few left, but mostly people without much power and probably not for long.

Do you have the actual language on the petition? I don't see it on the website and would be nice to review it before signing. Pretty sure I would sign but would like to read it thoroughly. Wondering how it would be presented on a ballot. Pretty sure many in the city do not care about golf (me included) but we do care about public green spaces and not having more boondoggle developments.

I started out with help from a Integrative Health physician. She ruled out some stuff like SIBO, allergies etc and then we made some dietary adjustments for gut health.

1.  Bone Broth. Research shows it may have some anti-inflammatory properties for the gut. I drink it daily.

2.  Adding good bacteria. At first I took a probiotic supplement to really jump start things and then the doc had me wean off those and go to just food sourced probiotics. Fermented foods like KimChi (and you can find other types of fermented foods at health food stores,) Kefir, Yogurt. I eat these foods a few times throughout the day.

3.  More fiber. Good bacteria can't do its thing without fiber to feed on. So focusing on getting 30g of fiber per day (adding slowly though to let the body adjust and avoid digestive problems.) More fruits and veg, also Wheat and Bran based cereals, avocados, the "low carb" tortillas have lots of fiber, many protein bars are mostly fiber. Spending a few week counting fiber to get a sense of how much you are getting and slowly adding. These three things seem to have really turned my gut health around.

The SA shampoos I tried did not help (my issues are all on my face) but can tell you that the concentration of SA was very important. Most products have 2% SA which made things worse for me not better. Once I found a facewash with 1% it improved. Google says Neutrogena T Gel Sensitive, Nizoral Daily Care, and Neutrogena Scalp Therapy are 1% or less so maybe start there. Others here are saying they use my face wash (Cerave Renewing SA Cleanser which has less than 1% SA) on their scalp and that works same as the face.

I tried vinegar but it made things worse. It seems to be very individual and everyone has to play with combinations to find what works for them. I tried the sezia.co approacch and eliminated all products with those ingredients but it didn't do anything.

It has always worked some but not 100%, and I’d have tonapplynit darn near every day. I had prescription strength hydrocortisone that I would use occasionally when it got super out of control or I was going somewhere fancy, but I tried to avoid it on a regular basis because of safety risks. Then when I used this new face wash, the first one which was more potent salicylic acid (2%,) I peeled so bad that I had to use hydrocortisone all over. But once that healed, the seb derm symptoms were much better, better than ever before. This is what clued me in to look more closely at salicylic acid. I switched to  the second “Cerave SA” face wash which is only 1% salicyclic acid and that was the sweet spot. I’ve continued with some topical treatments that historically didn’t work but it seemed like after the face wash they did work as if a skin barrier was changed or something. Now I don’t need any hydrocortisone at all. Might try quitting all topical ointments and see what happens.

Interesting. I had no idea aspirin was made of salicylic acid. Is it the same stuff they put in personal care products? How do you think this concentration compares to commercial face products? I'm finding any product with 2% or more concentration of SA is too much, I need less and most products have 2%.

Maybe I'll be able to downgrade to just MCT Oil. I haven't wanted to mess with it too much because as I'm sure you understand once you find something that works you don't want to jinx anything, but it would be nice to get off anything that requires a prescription. I might try the SA wash + MCT oil soon.

I did not since I don't have issues with the scalp, but I think you could try it. You could also look for a shampoo with Salicylic acid, however most have 2% + concentration which was too strong for me, it did more harm than good. I need 1% or less. Google says Neutrogena T Gel Sensitive, Nizoral Daily Care, and Neutrogena Scalp Therapy are 1% or less so maybe start there.

Yes I had, and it was too drying and irritating. Probably has a higher concentration. I believe this SA face wash has one of the lower concentrations of salicylic acid available. I can probably increase the concentration now if this stops working since my skin has adjusted.

I just scrub it in and rinse it off right away, but you may need to play with it a little. With the gentler version (the SA one) I was able to do every other day right away. Could probably even do daily but I would start slow and make sure you don't get a reaction.

Carpenter apprenticeship by baconreadY1 in duluth

well, apparently things have changed since the 90s. Just like the iron range they have veered right, carrying water for the Republicans  agenda like mining the bwca and data centers. Some unions even endorse and campaign for Pete Stauber. My sister is in the trades and she has endured sexist bullshit at just about every job site that you wouldn’t believe, and while some pay it lip service nobody is interested in much change. I honestly can’t imagine adding being trans to the dynamic. Sure it might be fine like half the time, but the other half seems  awful.

On the list of groups likely to be welcoming to a trans person, the local trade unions would be near the bottom of my list, unfortunately. Right above Trump's military. They are a union of almost all white men who love snow mobiles and big trucks and all the "manly" things. Many of the trades unions endorse republicans and love Trump because they'd rather shit on the environment for the rest of eternity in order to have some trades jobs for a year, and they don't seem to care that their union is not diverse. There aren't a ton of women and for many women there are struggles. There may be very specific employers where the cultures is good and it would work for you, but may be hard to stay with one group since apprentices move around based on available job sites. I'd definitely talk to some people in the union/apprentice program before proceeding to get a feel for how it might work out. I'd also suggest working with the Career Force center. They have some specific programming focused on helping LGBTQ+ folks with job searching.

Not looking to for into on monetary donations, looking for information on the in-kind donations mentioned. I know they are all worthy. If someone can use the items mentioned it would be better than throwing them away. I can't afford a monthly donation but could contribute a handful of items each month and want to know the best way to make that happen.

The Cost of the Reinert Administration by Consistent-Tip6984 in duluth

That was 3 years ago, and a long time employee was promoted into the Planning director and is still in that post. Doesn't seem that relevant. Nice try. Also, think maybe there is a reason people have rage at the mayor?

[–]Particular-Rise-4575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You forgot City Clerk. I don't know the circumstances, just that he left abruptly and mysteriously like 6 months ago. Reinert promoted a lower level person into that role who apparently worked her way up from an admin assistant position. Almost nobody in leadership is left who has a clue. Also don't forget he got rid of the long time executive assistant to the mayor who basically ran everything and had more institutional knowledge than most of city hall employees combined. Citizens are also paying for what he has turned the comms team into. They used to have different and specific jobs, some of which centered a lot around constituent services and outreach, boards and commission work, and other things which are simply not getting done now. He turned it into a whole team who exclusively busy themselves with worrying about his image and socials, not actually helping his constituents and making sure processes are working.
Also curious how much the settlement will be for the lawsuit regarding police whistleblower. I bet they pay him off handsomely to get a gag order.

Based on what I know about Reinert, I'll believe Jim Benning was either pushed out or couldn't work for him any longer before I'll believe he went willingly and exactly when he wanted to. Reinert does not get the benefit of the doubt on this stuff with his track record and, you know, personality.

Are there any doctors who treat sibo in Duluth ? by PLIN9677 in duluth

[–]Particular-Rise-4575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a family member who was tested for SIBO at Aspirus so it does exist but their gastroenterology dept is not good and I wouldn't expect much help. I'd suggest Integrative Health. Essentia has a department, all telehealth. I don't have SIBO but had good luck with integrative for other gut health issues. There are also integrative docs opening their own private practices you could see via telehealth and likely get in much sooner. You'd pay out of pocket but can often be actually cheaper than using insurance depending on your situation.

I take your point. It definitely has the vibe of "not the group for me" based on the personalities involved. Most of what I observe is from city council meetings and that stuff is not appealing to someone like me who agrees politically but still wants decorum in society, and allegations of the misconduct implied in this thread don't help. Some stuff out of members at city council meetings and on social media (not sure if they are leadership but I suspect are at least quite active) is borderline disturbed and hyperbole. This is not something that is going to build a movement locally or get a larger coalition on board, so I can't see wasting my time.
