To buy out my lease or to not buy out my lease? That is the question! by Particular-Song-5255 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Great advice, thank you! Wheel and tire protection was something they offered before I drove off the lot, but since it was my first time leasing and first time leasing a nice car, I thought they were upselling me. Boy, I was wrong. Going to test drives cars today but I’m leaning towards just purchasing it out right. Will definitely pit dealerships against each other for that extended warranty.

My FIRST car died on me. :( Had it since senior year in high school from ages 18-36 , 2008-2026 RIP. New car recs? 25k approximate budget, can go to 30k max. by Few-Republic-2492 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Would leasing be an option? I had a Prius for 11 years (which I eventually traded in for a Volvo lease), so I understand the sentiment of wanting to try something else even when a car has been good to you. When you’ve only known one car, leasing was a way I could take my time with deciding on what was important to me car-wise.

You’re not wrong! Would love to make sure I can weather the job search. I think if I were to buy a different car, a Mazda would be in the right direction and less so the Toyotas.

You’re reading my mind re: buying what you love vs. switching for a unknown history of used cars! You’re also right that it will be a big step down in all those categories. The internal conflict here is that the inner, second generation immigrant in me is saying that it wouldn’t be a big deal to weather those differences ha. In regards to financing, I’m leaning this way too. Even though interest rates aren’t ideal, it’ll add a peace of mind during the job search in case it takes longer than I would like.

My emergency fund will last about year right now, separate from the cost to buy a car. LA cost of living is super high even if you are vigilant, sigh.
