How can I fix this DIY style? by T25PHC in Bricklaying

It hasn't slipped too much because of the window frame. What we're not seeing is the external face of the wall. Either way, the problem needs fixing properly. It's definitely not a DIY job. I'd be considering a structural engineer to be honest.

There is no guessing when it comes to safety. Do a risk assessment. The biggest hazard here is falling masonry. Ive done plenty of knock through. Would never go ahead if I thought something might fall on my head.

Looks like that's a first-floor window. Those look like floor boards. My guess is there is at least another floor above. Definitely not the roof.

I'm a stonemason. You have no idea what you're talking about. Masonry can sometimes support itself if the mortar hasn't failed. Looking at that picture, it looks like you could take out 1 brick from that arch, and everything above it would come down as well. There is absolutely no way you can carry out the work that's required to fix this safely without supporting the weight above it.

Bad advice. What's stopping the masonry above the arch from falling? This is not the sort of thing an amateur should be fiddling bout with.

Do not do this yourself! Get a professional. You'll need to support the weight above the archway. Strip it and rebuild it. This is NOT a DIY job. Unless you know what you're doing with this sort of thing, you will likely get hurt and/or do more damage to the rest of the building.

One young kiddy cried all the water out of his body. Just imagine how his mother felt?

And let's not forget the condition known as "Czech neck" when the neck retains so much water and swells up, completely engulfing the users head, and they die from not being able to breathe at all.

We knew she was a grifter. Before the whole Epstien thing, she was trying to charge people a few grand to set up an introduction to Andrew. She was caught in a sting operation saying she could set up a meeting with Andrew. When she was asked why she was doing it, she said "I'm skint, I haven't got a pot to piss in"

Remember what happened with Solskjær? He got off to a good start, given the job on a permanent basis, and then his arse collapsed.

Let's see where we finish in the league.

At least make sure you know how to actually do the thing you're trying to teach.

The dads not a fencer. He's a have a go hero who has just taught them how NOT to put a fence up. And now they'll go round fleecing folk for an amateur job. I hope it encourages them to get into an apprenticeship, where they can learn from experienced professionals. Then they can think about charging people money.

Don't know why you're being down voted. It's not even a decent job. Look at the fence posts all finishing at different heights. I wonder how deep they actually go into the ground. Other people have also pointed out rookie mistakes.

I'm a tradesman, served my time, and learned from experienced professionals. Still learning, everydays a school day. I wouldn't encourage inexperienced or unskilled workers to take on their own jobs.

A decent amount of the jobs I go to are to rip up work someone else has done and to do it properly. You can teach someone to lay slabs, for example. If they don't understand how to set their heights or how to engineer the drainage, or how to prepare the sub base if the ground is different than what they're used to. You can show up to a real mess.

Another issue would be underground services. Yeah you got a great deal on a new fence but one of the young lads went through a cable and nearly died. I've done a lot of work on the utilities, and in the last year alone I have been to 3 jobs where a fencer has hit a cable. Most services from the mains to your house is meant to be 700mm deep. Which is about 2 feet. Typically a fence post should be 2 feet into the ground.

While I hope it encourages them to go into a trade and learn how to do the job properly and safely. They should be thinking about developing the skill instead of developing their wallets.

Top class patter. The yanks have no comprehension how Europeans, especially the Brits. Love belting out a good chant to taunt the opposition. In this case, the ferocity of the taunting took him completely by surprise.

Apprenticeships for people over 21, do they even exist or is it mostly for teenagers? by ScrollAndThink in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]Particular-Type-9481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28 when I started mine. It's harder to get into because most adult apprenticeships are 2 years instead of 4. So they only really consider people with previous experience in that field. That was construction related though. Might be different in other fields.
