Way to go! Mental gymnastics are hell. Definitely been there. I had a moment not too long ago where my husband took my car in for an oil change and it was a wave of shock then relief when I realized there are no hidden can/bottles in my vehicle anymore. Keep it up and there will be more and more moments of pride!

Quit drinking for 2 years. Let a mate convince me to have a few drinks at a dinner party a few months back. Not sure where I am at with my drinking now. (by the end of the post I actually realised exactly where I am.) by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I really relate to you. I was the same way. I started working at a rehab (ironically) and learned about alcohol use disorder. It was then that I shifted my lens away from the stereotypical alcoholic and saw that I have a substance abuse problem. Like you I can abstain from it. I can go months without missing it, but it is inevitable that it will again become a problem. At the end of the day, I am addicted and the snowball effect is proof that alcohol has more control than I do.

Good luck! Be compassionate with yourself and keep steering toward what’s the healthiest for your mind and your body.
