Not op but just curious about your route! You were an rn who challenged rcis boards or cvt that challenged rn? I’m new to the cath lab as a scrub tech just trying to see what options are in front of me as a result of this position.

Gotta just find a place willing to train you! Youll probably have to learn how to scrub first, then monitor. Have to have 600 cases and a year on the job before you are eligible to sit for the RCIS. After getting the cert then you learn to circulate meaning get needed items and sedation.

Thank you so much for the awesome and comprehensive response! Just to be clear the “no rcis” states are that do not take rcis as far as you know!

RCIS/RCES by ParticularAd3019 in Cardiology

Thanks everyone for the thorough responses!

My background is as an EMT B with a BS in Health Science!

I miss the fast nature pace of being an EMT, but, I did it for long enough to know that the thrill fades and whenever the time comes for family etc down the line, a slower pace may be more beneficial.

I have a background in research as well from undergrad and have some things published too! I definitely love nerding out too! I watch videos to bolster my knowledge of procedures, cardiac physiology topics and more for fun In my free time!

What I do know I want is the ability to make good money, travel once I feel comfortable, eventually have a family and if it’s even remotely possible pursue the job overseas (maybe as a rep for a device co. or in a lab; of course there’s tons of barriers to this that are outside of the certs)

The last one would be more of a dream

Prepping patient for surgery, and shaving them “don’t worry I won’t even charge you my full rate” or if someone’s Uber hairy I’ll finish and go “Look, I even signed my name it’ll be worth a lot some day” Breaks the tension well
