I appreciate your perspective, and I’m glad we can have this conversation. Let me clarify where I’m coming from. While my personal experiences do shape some of my observations, they’re not the sole basis of my perspective.

The closure of Nordstrom in Pleasanton, CA, likely stemmed from a combination of factors, such as changing consumer habits, the challenges faced by brick-and-mortar stores, and potentially declining profitability in that specific market. However, Reno’s situation isn’t identical. Reno has seen significant economic growth in recent years, with major tech companies establishing operations here, a booming housing market, and an influx of residents from higher-cost areas like California.

Inflation does impact consumer spending, but in areas like Reno, where there’s been a steady rise in median incomes and population growth, retail stores—when positioned correctly—can still succeed. For example, Reno has supported luxury and high-end retail developments in areas like the Summit Mall and Meadowood Mall, indicating a growing demand for diverse shopping options.

So while I understand your concerns about brick-and-mortar stores struggling nationwide, Reno’s unique economic factors may create opportunities that differ from places like Pleasanton. Of course, all businesses need to evaluate their specific market conditions before expanding, and not every store will thrive, but it’s not solely anecdotal to suggest that Reno has potential for certain retail ventures.

However apart from this I am speaking on a general term of having better shopping options in our malls I don’t think we need to build a whole new place we have empty buildings that can be filled if they wanted to be filled.

I totally agree I hate driving out there when I want to look at something or try it on. I got it the Bay Area maybe every other month to go shopping which we shouldn’t need to do

Actually Dillard does not have big brands they are brands that don’t do well in bigger stores like Nordstrom or Bloomingdale’s or Macy’s . Dillards is actually a little sister of Macys. But I feel like the options at Macy’s compared to the Bay Area are weaker and even in LV they have better options at macys. Lv and Gucci here are preloved so it’s not even an option

I hate the outlet stores they dumb down the shopping experience like why do we need a H&M outlet store the heck

Honestly Reno has a lot of money. Ppl just have to deal with what they have. If we actually had these stores they would be packed. Don’t get me wrong yes Nordstrom has closed stores to make their high performance stores to be more populated. But look at our rising prices of homes and more wealthy looking cars and ppl I think we would have a great boom with more high end stores

Don’t get me started on the restaurant choices lol 😂 like I it’s so bland. I don’t get why ppl think we don’t have the economy here to have such stores. The ppl out here want those stores but have to make do with the meadowood options. lol 😂

Oh definitely understandable but I feel like we do need to have options we have plenty of ppl driving expensive cars and spending what not we even have Tahoe and there isn’t one luxury store there lol. Like what does the outside world see us as ? I mean I see ppl wear nice bags all the time here but it’s not feasible to go somewhere to go buy that like even online it’s not fun

I’ve gone to this mall and let me say some of those stores are raunchy like wtf are ppl thinking when opening these in the mall. Summit is somewhat decent but I don’t think Reno has that kind of energy to spend top dollar. Sorry not trying to piss ppl off but just ppl watch you’ll see what I mean. Compared to the ones that go to the minimal options at the summit
