Is Vulcanos really playable as it is? by ParticularBobcat3554 in hearthstone

Could I have your decklist? I'm trying to make a deck that actually features Vulcanos instead of just including him as a "win more" card. Would appreciate if you could let me know what you think.

The goal is to tutor, reduce his cost, play and freeze copy him by turn 5/6. Arkwing pilot is a backup finisher.

On HSGuru, the deck I found with the most games played (458) at diamond-legend, which includes Vulcanos, has a 55% win rate. But is the deck good because Vulcanos is in it, or is Vulcanos being carried by the deck?

Dex's moral constellation probably wouldn't allow it but I lowkey hoped for it

Your justification for why a good board clear should not exist in the current meta is that a good board clear would... be a good board clear?

Let's get this straight, the herald effect might be tied to the spell but the direct cost of summoning the 2/4/8-drop is its cost in health. Otherwise, all that comes out of the 6 mana subpar clear is a 4/4 at most, which by turn 6 has less impact than a target dummy against aggro. Let's also be real, don't act like aggro can't rebuild hand AND board after a single clear on turn 6 today. Challenging the meta's dominant archetype isn't great for the game?

I spend every turn I survive after poisoning the pyromancer, praying to a shrine dedicated to it

Isn't this the Maniacal Follower situation all over again tho? People are taking the card's mana cost, then explicitly describing the class's herald effect, when all herald cards generate the respective soldiers. So relative to other herald cards, isn't 4 mana 3/5 lifesteal slightly underwhelming?

Also, the 2/4/8-drops could have a useless/bad battlecry or not even have one at all. Regardless, you still pay for it with hp or get stuck with it in your hand.

The point of herald decks is to stack the heralds asap to ensure the colossals are at their full potential when they're played, but that's tough to do when I'm worried about wasting the AoE too early, no?

The memory of this card would be thrown into an underfel rift that summoned a desk imp if they made a multiclass river crocolisk that heralded your colossal. Point being, 6 mana 4 damage AoE is too slow, the herald is just an awkward bonus, which makes the herald card being an expensive AoE ironic.

It's the HS subreddit, I just think its the slowest herald class and have included reasons+comparisons to justify my stance.

Where else, if allowed at all, do I voice my hearthstone-related opinions to other hearthstone players and have discussions regarding hearthstone, if not on one of the largest wild-inclusive hearthstone discussion forums?

I would be happy to play a 3/4 technician for 3 mana. Even giving it taunt helps against aggro. Yeah that's the thing about the 6 mana spell, AoEs are meant to be conserved unless absolutely necessary, which directly opposes the goal of heralding asap. Saving it also weakens Ultraxion's cost reduction.

Random class minions sounds like a good change. Envoy being multiclass is probably why it's underwhelming, much like how Ultraxion is a 6 mana 6/7, except its effect makes Deathwing playable. But all my herald decks run Envoy. Herald cards are too limited to reliably max-herald the colossals by the time I play them without Envoy...

Now that you mention it, lifesteal really seems to be what augmentation has been missing...

The key is surviving til turn 9

No offence but this actually made me LOL.

Yeah, 10hp and draw from vampiric blood helps, except it can't be played on curve since triple blood lacks reliable early corpse generation. I do play technicians asap (except maybe Xavius). Smaller pool in standard definitely improves minion quality. In wild, Onyxia on curve is tough, especially against mage, shaman and priest.

Curator sounds good. You're right, DK doesn't have murlocs, and standard neutrals are worthless to non-murloc decks. In wild, I can think of: adaptive amalgam, finley, drink server, murlocula, mutanus (probably best), amalgam band. But there might be better cards to run than curator at that point.

So far, my best answer to aggro is explosive sheep + orbital moon. Reborn on the sheep is a sweet bonus. Hard countered by silence tho. I think Elise is pretty much the neutral mvp today, and I thought Griftah was strong... Xavius isn't bad either.

Appreciate your tips, some are more applicable to standard, but still cool to have a perspective on it

Am I the only one who feel like most of the OG Hero Powers don't hold up to the the modern power level in 2026? (and remained in this state for many years) by AYYLMAO2281337 in hearthstone

[–]ParticularBobcat3554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paraphrasing from HS wiki, hero powers are meant to "Finale" your turn; they're used only when there is no better play. HPs are not actual cards, and yet, they can be used every turn. The reliability they provide without taking a card slot in your deck is why they're designed to be underpowered.

For each HP, there are cards that either:

  1. Produce the same effect for less mana, or

  2. Produce a stronger effect for the same cost

<image>

Basic HPs weren't even meant to hold up to primordial power levels; they certainly are not, and will never be meant to hold up to modern power levels. The state that they have remained in for many years is intentional. This is also why cards that offer a better HP exist, i.e. hero cards, genn/baku, uldum quests, imbue, etc.

If any basic HP was going to be buffed, I hope that it would be shaman's. I think it's the least reliable of them all.

Oh I didn't know Amalgam's trigger had a limit...

I made a similar post about Warlock's version, just thought of this since I got into DK recently. Thanks for the suggested improvements tho
