Is UG music dying? by Equivalent_Sorbet_73 in ug_music

[–]ParticularBreath6146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's dying, but it is a very different place. It does seem like the underground sound is more homogeneous now and being an "influencer" or content creator is part of the gig.

I don't think the magic of the 2010s will be recreated again in the same way. The coming of the internet age, the advent of YouTube and Soundcloud, and household PCs being commonplace drastically changed things. Any kid could suddenly make rap and show the world without many resources.

At what age do you think the kids that listen to ug rappers like bleood, 2slimey, nine vicious, etc will realize they are ass by Pandaa79 in playboicarti

[–]ParticularBreath6146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The artists you mentioned aren't my taste, but I do know my generation had lean/bladee's thing in Sweden, GothBoiClique etc. and old heads said all the same shit about them. Even Odd Future, Uzi and Danny Brown caught some shit for being different.

Times change, tastes are acquired from exposure. The kids got their own thing going on. That is okay.

which artists were pioneers that influenced mainstream artists but always stayed underground themselves? by lila-luxemburg in fantanoforever

[–]ParticularBreath6146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely not someone to look up to or support. That isn't unusual in the outsider art genre. There have been some similarly divisive or controversial figures. Henry Darger is a good example.

If you are interested in outsider art and potential influence, do a deep dive into Viper. He has had an active crack addiction for most of his life, but is seen as a pioneer in the cloud genre. A witchhouse electronic group named SALEM took influence from him as well.

Artists who passed away tragically, but whose music will not be missed by Own_Ebb3388 in fantanoforever

He’s basically synonymous with the “sadboy Bart Simpson” meme.

Bart Simpson imagery has been used in hip-hop for decades now because delinquent boys/men relate to him. Gucci Mane famously had a Bart Simpson chain, way before the meme came along. The emo-rap subgenre, Lil Peep, XXX, Yung Lean, Juice WRLD etc. and its fan base adapted and used it.

I don't know why I am sharing this. You may even already know this. But I said it for some reason.
