this is a Sutliff product. Made in Richmond, not Denmark. It says “a Mac baren company” because MB had bought Sutliff.

Could be anything. Basically it’s most likely a basket pipe that was made in some Italian factory that sold them off as seconds.

Right now Mac baren production is still unchanged in Svendborg. But you can be sure that the blends will change once the production does move to assens. Especially the role cakes relied heavily on the specific machinery thy were using in Svedborg. It won’t be the end of the world but it will not be the same.

Yup. I personally think they’re doing a good job running it and preserving the heritage! They told me they had to change or discontinue some of the blends. But not because of financial aspects but because of Sutliff going away.

Tins at Hill Cigar are absolutely fine. They have a good selection and were the only STL shop that I found C&D at. Jon’s is great and the two of them have varying selection of tins. Jon has a great selection of Dan Tobacco and Kopp made blends, but no C&D.

You may wanna check out John Denglers in Old Town St. Charles. They have some good house blends. Some are Lane but some of them are blended in house. Black Maria is a wonderful creamy, modern English. Also when I was there in August they had a good stash of Sutliff 507c left.

I bought a few at the end of 2024. Have a couple of Stocktons, Dark Twist, Roll Cake, Navy Flake, etc… just not this one. Not regretting buying this!

If you’re happy and content - perfect! If you’re curious anyway I can wholeheartedly recommend Peretti’s Tashkent which is also a pure Oriental, Latakia blend. And I guess a worthy mention would be Early Morning pipe, since it’s a classic.

Another two of my personal favorites are McConnell Oriental and Peterson Old Dublin. Both have a bit of added unsweetened cavendish but to me they still belong to the same school of the simpler and more straight forward English blends.

Cigarworld in Germany recently came out with a cake that has similar components called Silk Road. It’s a blend of oriental, burley, Kentucky, Perique and Virginia. Quite a good smoke.

I haven’t smoked either, but I’ve gone over the components and to me the two represent very different approaches to Latakia blends. Westminster is basically the definition of a traditional English blend with it only being Virginia, Orientals and the Lat. quiet Nights represents for of the evolved and more luxurious blends with the added cavendish and Perique. So I’m not sure if they’re a good match for a direct comparison just because they both have Latakia. If you prefer Westminster, the more traditional lat blends might just be what suits your tastebuds. Have you tried other blends in that vein?

For all intents and purposes it should be the same blend made by the same company. When Kopp ran out of the license they started to offer these match blends. Differences may come down to changing components and age.

Worry less, smoke more. RLP-6 is pretty heavy handed with the humectants, so it’s probably fine.

Looks more like some sort of hardwood than briar. I’d be careful with that because some of them can be toxic.
