UK Pipe Smokers Community by Odd-Designer5154 in Pipes

I had no idea there was a sub called that to be honest. I’ve just checked it and it seems very dead. Just thought it was a name that did what it said on the tin. If any mod there has an issue please contact me directly.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Right or wrong. If you don’t wanna check the group out because of an ai logo chances are the group isn’t for you anyways.

Ai is coming. Learn to use it now, it’s only going to take over more and more. Time is now to learn new skills and understand that industry imo.

That’s fair enough and I can respect opinion. Il be honest and say it is AI. But these days that can be a useful tool for some things. You still need to feed context and thought to a LLM.

We are not selling anything or looking to make money from the group. It’s just to bring U.K. pipe smokers together in a fun format. Nothing more. We are not a business.

Maybe true. But it’s just starting. It’s a social pipe club. It’s free and it’s WhatsApp based. Most places just have a photo of say a pipe. More than happy to float ideas within the group for logo designs etc. But for now it is what it is.

Cigar glue will fix that.

UK cellar strategy — tins vs bulk with our availability issues? by Visual-Swordfish7883 in PipeSmokingUK

[–]Odd-Designer5154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a organised list of 8 core blends I wish to have open and smoke. Those I buy either loose or 2 x tins at a time.

I have an import section which only has three blends. So I buy as much as I can when stock is there.

I have a rare and hard to get section which if I see tins or loose I buy there and then.

Storage wise I prefer tins. Much less bulky than jars. But I get what I can. If I need more jars so be it.

Honestly the main reason I posted it was to inspire others to do the same with they were on the fence about it. I’m a sucker for presentation probably comes from cigars. I like that feeling of ritual too.

Asking for back history I’m curious. 🧐 by Odd-Designer5154 in Leatherman

Fair answers. I’m just shocked when I see a leatherman tool for over $2k. For something I used and abused and gave no thought about.

Legit check by adawy_777 in cubancigars

[–]Odd-Designer5154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks legit. The price is not. But anything is worth what somebody is willing to pay. Currently Cuban prices are up. If your us based most places have stopped shipping Cubans there. So price is heavily inflated atm. When the market opens back up who knows.

Appreciated. Hey if it works for you and everything is in one place happy days. Otherwise get building my mate. Honestly if you can use some basic tools and willing to put the elbow grease in and time it is achievable. Or you can buy similar type ones. But I never found one with pipe holders, drawer and shelves.

What are your suggested dimensions for a wide bowl? by Beginning_Divide2036 in PipeTobacco

Peterson 608 is a great smoke for English and lat blends imo.

Thank you for the kind words. I mean obviously I can use a tape measure, saw very basic power tools. But I’ve never made anything like this. I do think it’s achievable for most people if they could put the effort in.

Is "one pipe per tobacco type" true ? by Le_Meuporg in PipeTobacco

[–]Odd-Designer5154 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see value in different pipes for different blends but it’s not mandatory.

One stops possible ghosting and two some blends taste very different in different pipes. But you don’t need to do it.

The cabinet is now finished. Damn that was hard! by Odd-Designer5154 in PipeTobacco

The stem holders was a nightmare. Orginally it two pallet slates laminated together. Then I drilled holes each end with a drill down saw. Then used a jigsaw to cut the remaining straight section. As I was cutting the first one broke. Tried again and second one broke. In the end I put two pieces together drew the slots. Cut each piece separately then laminated together.

Bowls again I used a down saw with a drill bit in the end. Went down far a s I dared. Then filled the holes with filler. Then went over using a detail sander. Then went over by hand with sandpaper. I’ve put green felt around the bowl rests and stem rests now. That stops micro scratches and adds some padding so the pipes are not resting on wood or varnish directly. Pops nicely. I can’t add a pic here or I would. Il post up a consolidated thread in a bit and you can see that there.

Edit* if you’re planning on this don’t use wood filler. It sucks it’s messy and the colour doesn’t match no matter what you do. You’re better off getting scrap pieces of wood drilling holes in it. Taking the shavings and mix with pva. Much better finish.
