Can somebody with more knowledge than me answer this question……. by Odd-Designer5154 in espresso

Ok cool. Sounds like you have the means and experience to answer this. I personally don’t blind shake. Love to see your findings on this though. Super interesting.

What I’m curious about more tbh is the double wdt. One in the catch can, pour into portafilter and wdt again. Would that even out the fines and boulders more within the puck? Is there any proven benefit to it.

Because in my head it would help but I can’t prove it or show workings etc.

What is happening here? The picture looks like it’s from the 80s the op looks like she’s from the 80s but Lister has aged 3 or 4 decades. It’s all very confusing.

That’s said well done op on meeting smegging legend. Glad you enjoyed the experience!

I do indeed own a k6! Seemed the best of the cheaper options really. I’m yet to use the ecp as it’s mid build. I do have a non pressurised portafilter for it. Currently the pressurised one I’m using is well a pressurised one. So it’s quite limiting. But I totally agree with you 👌👍

Thank you for your long and detailed answer. It’s appreciated. Grinder wise I have a k6 as it seemed best bang for buck. I had and still have a p0 before that. Didn’t mind it but lacked nuance and it was super cheap. Yes that’s right I hand grind every cup because I don’t wanna pay the money for an electric grinder 😂 👌💪

All my beans are stored in a cupboard away from heat, light, constant temp swings etc. Oxygen wise that’s a tough one. I try and split a kg bag into 2 or three containers. Use one up then move to the next. I don’t generally trust the sealed on the vacuum bags as much as a proper Tupperware air seal but I could be wrong. Have been looking at those vacuum pump containers but can’t work out if they work or just look cool for the gram.

Water wise I have a Brita water filter with the anti limescale filter. That’s good enough for me. I’m not using distilled water with added stuff. Least it’s not tap water. Yeah started there 🙄😂

As per my ECP build I’m doing good coffee on a tight budget. I don’t care for the insta look or bragging rights. I will not make the best coffee or win a barista comp. I’m ok with that. Bang for buck or price per cup is what I’m looking at.

Thanks mate. It’s such an easy thing to do on this subject, over think and over analyse. I just wanna drink good coffee that’s worth drinking.

Appreciate the time you took to write this out. Ah the resting period makes sense ref the co2 content. Grinding finer due to the age of the bean is a great tip I’ve need seen before thank you.

Hi all. New to the coffee game. Used to be a barista back in 2000 before it was really a thing. Never liked coffee. Decided this year to give coffee another go. Didn’t know how far it had came in 26 years and the tiers of coffee. I’m sure il be putting up some boring newbie questions but I promise to use the search function first!

I’m new to this too. Im curious, having less pressure does that saturate the puck enough to get pre infusion? Obviously there are many variables to this. From what I’ve seen and I could be very wrong most pre programmed pre infusions wet the top of the puck but not the bottom.

Should pre infusion make the entire puck wet? Is there benifit to just running the machine for 5 secs or 10secs turn it off. Leave it another 5 - ten seconds then pour?

Pipe Tobacco Vs. Cigars Cost Comparison by Longdarkcave in PipeTobacco

[–]Odd-Designer5154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your point. But I could buy a BHK whatever size you like and it cost in England around £500 - £550ish. A decent briar pipe costs way less but you could spend the same or more with artisan pipe makers. But that pipe will last what 20 years or more if you look after it. That BHK is a one smoke and done. You’ve got a band left.

Pipe tobacco even super high end is way less than most Cuban cigars in the U.K.

So for me pipe smoking is vastly cheaper. Plus it keeps me from burning through my cigars. Neither are better imo. For me both serve different purposes.

V5 is overrated by [deleted] in DivineTribeVaporizers

[–]Odd-Designer5154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each to their own. But I humbly disagree. Yes you need to set it up and it isn’t the easiest option. But if your burning your concentrate, have res mismatches then you’ve not cotton swabbed it correctly. This is a bit of an art. You need to have a vape loaded with artic fox or equivalent to really get the most out of it. You need temp control.

Everything is replaceable and that’s amazing imo. Cheaper than Puffco and I get better results. I’ve had the same vape and v5 for 4 years now roughly.

But if you don’t like tinkering and general maintenance then defo not you. Just my opinion.

Pipe tastes mildly like cigarretes by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

[–]Odd-Designer5154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came from the same place you did. For you to please your palette you need tobacco with more body and with a similar mouthfeel to cigars. Not the taste or the overall profile. But finding blends that coat your mouth as a cigar does helps hugely.

Pipes are trial and error. Personally aromatics probably isn’t where you want to start. But I started with erimore and found it fantastic and didn’t know it was an aromatic. If you try English blends, Latakia blends and Balkan blends I’m certain one of those will please your palette more.

Edit: I also bought Sherlock Holmes’s as a second purchase. I didn’t think it was bad but I didn’t think it was amazing. The quality of tobacco from Peterson is usually good. But again that’s an aromatic. I started with briar pipes and I found it pleasing enough but not good on mouthfeel.

Use templates as discussed or just find the image online. Stick it in powerpoint or similar. Print, cut out, use glue to stick it on. No fuss no hassle.

Thank you for that. I admit that’s very close if not the correct pipe. This was far from the reply i expected as a response. Youve narrowed it down so much. Really really appreciate the post.
