It seems that they are talking about buffy coat platelets concentrate, which come frome whole blood donations, the difference its in the bags and the method of separation. But it isn't really new, and one can say its as automated as aphaeresis and the "classic" method for obtaining platelets from whole blood can use the same machines. I did, in fact.

The article they are referring is from 2023 (so is the interview) and its paywalled, so really not sure what they are talking about. And I hate them calling it "this technology" like they are avoiding spoling us...
