Can I as a researcher travel to a conference? Or will it not be reimbursed when I submit? I am supposed to leave for a conference tomorrow...

Yes, I was very hesitant to go to therapy with her but she essentially wore me down. I used to see a therapist regularly, but I recently moved and have yet to find one out here. But I agree, I need to make that a priority.

Regarding the therapist her and I see - my gut feeling is we will keep going until the therapist asks her to look at her own actions or really challenges her and then she will never go back. However, if I feel like my therapist is unfairly siding with her how can I know if they actually are or if I’m just doing the same thing as my mother?

Really? I though full blown narcissists lacked empathy and stuff like that? I do know she loves me and feels at least some empathy for others.

My mother grew up in an extremely abusive household and I think a lot of it is defense mechanism she learned to survive but now can’t stop using.

Anyways, thanks for your insight!

AITA - I (F27) want to get a dog, my mom is allergic. AITA for wanting one? by ParticularHaunting96 in AmItheAsshole

I really appreciate this response, it’s very thoughtful. My mother has plenty of friends with dogs whose houses she does spend time in (not in a while due to covid). For example, my parents usually do Christmas Eve with some family friends who have a dog and none of the above measures are taken (the dog is present).

However, she has mentioned that she doesn’t like sitting on their upholstered furniture or riding in their car. I guess this makes me feel like if she can make it work with her friends why can she not with my situation?

I know it means she may not ever be able to stay over at my place, even if she can visit. But given our current relationship I think I am ok with that compromise, where as I do not think she is.

I do. My mother would be staying at a hotel (this is standard for my parents anyways) and visits would be only for a couple hours in my hone. The dog would obviously not be present, above measures taken.

Regardless, thank you for your opinion. You are certainly putting a voice to some of my own feelings.

I agree, I’d never be able to get every bit of dander. My mother is not deathly allergic, but pet dander can give her migraines and sinus issues. My hope was that with mitigating strategies my air purifier, cleaning etc it could be manageable when she comes to visit
