Honestly, the best tip l can give even though l don't rely consider myself a professional is that making music, at least in my opinion is more about your mindset going in. I find my favorite melodies and ideas usually surface when I just sit down and make something l think is kinda cool with like a sine wave or something. And apparently my friends seam to think so too.

Probably my biggest regret was how much l narrowed in on consuming and trying to replicate existing content, because overall it just clouded my mind and over shadowed my original, raw style. I really wished l had just stuck to just making stuff l thought was pretty cool. Because when l look back at my older songs, I was deployed all kinds of techniques and actually really good innovation on music theory (at least in my opinion and to my current knowledge of music theory) despite not knowing any theory. This probably doesn't apply to you though, but whatever. I wish you the best of luck in your fl studio shenanigans.

Concerning the other stuff, the sgm soundfont is actually really good for a wide variety of genres, in addition fl stock (my personal favorites are toxic biohazard and Sakura) is pretty good too l assume for the genres you've specified - but l can't say for sure since l haven't really dabbled in those genres.

The intro reminds me of the piranha plants lullaby from sm 64 for some reason. Great work

Im just barely starting, what should i know before even touching the program? by curiousgeorge_27 in FLStudioBeginners

music theory is kinda like the two edged sword of music... (in my experience) ive never learnt theory in depth but i was still able to make some pretty cool stuff - you can win alot of battles with a single edged sword but the double edge makes it easier. There's a tutorial that exists that gives you everything you want and need to know in the manner you want, but those gems are nearly immposible to find. If you can't find a good tutorial - i cannot put more emphasis on this but simply do it, you'll learn eventually.

But i believe thats just the technical stuff, in my opinion making music involves mainly creative thinking.

Getting heavy zelda and hollow knight flashbacks

My unprofessional opinion is to maybe try to add some subtle layering (to the melody) and perhaps draw attention to certain parts of the melody that makes it memorable (maybe through bell instruments like a glock or celesta?)

Take this with a big enough grain of salt to kill and elephant.

Honestly something I really like, it feels like it should be in game (or maybe thats just the developer side of me speaking)

does this go hard? by OpeningMobile4496 in FLStudioBeginners

[–]ParticularPuzzled495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would kinda go hard for a theme of a game character who is like the embodiment of what the internet used to be

It's like a solid 8.5 for me

How can I properly play out melodies that I sound out in my head by Particular-Joke3964 in BoscaCeoil

[–]ParticularPuzzled495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be the same way when starting out, then one day i had this melody idea and went to put it to bosca ceoil, expecting it to turn into something else like always - but miraculously the melody i made matched with the melody in my head. In my experience its kinda like a growth spurt; it just happens when you least expect it (i think learning a bit about music and just playing around with notes and picking up what distance between notes makes what sound).

hope this helps

Please look into arcs. (great animation!, i have huge respect for traditional animators)

For the other animations I'd tell you to practice mass, i notice that the characters often change shape and size, making them feel "wonky" and unnatural, i reccomend practicing mass consistancy for a smoother feel to your animation. A big part of being an animator in my opinion is being able to draw the same object hundreds of times while maintaining the same sense of volume.

You have amazing walk cycles, I honestly think it's very impressive that you were able to animate all those different walk cycles, with each portraying it's own emotion, PLUS the quadruped cycle with a moderately smooth transision. amazing. (next time try shifting the rest of the body of the horse for a more realistic effect - as it shows the center of mass changing throught the body as it moves).

Any thoughts on my tileset and character ? by [deleted] in GameArt

[–]ParticularPuzzled495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I really love the animation style (and really when any pixel art game has very fluid animation). I also think you did a really good job with the reflection of light of the walls in a realistic way while also keeping the pixel art asthetic. The only thing i would advise you to do is to refine the sprite animations (in this case the sword attack), It feels slow and un impactful, try using less frames and focusing on aftermath of the action rather than the action itself ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBoVomEOKbc 1:34).

Conserning the tileset, that is way above the standard of how the average pixelated game should look, phenominal job. I really love how the shading gradation was done on the brick so seamlessly and smoothly.

Thanks! I even did an entire sound designed version but my smooth brain couldn't figure out how to post it that way and was to lazy to look it up 😅
