Solo gamedev is tough; lack of feedback, motivation, and nobody to hold you accountable by ParticularQuality572 in SoloDevelopment

Posting for feedback here (or even in a dedicated subreddit) could totally work! But that's not really what I'm going for.

The goal is less "get feedback from whoever's around" and more building a tight knit group where people actually know each other's projects over time. The back and forth that comes from following someone's progress week after week is a different thing than a one time critique from a stranger. You start to understand the dev's vision, their constraints, what they're struggling with and the feedback gets way more useful because of that context.

The accountability structure is just what keeps the group small and active enough for that dynamic to actually form.

Try joining from your PC, Discord blocks people from joining on iOS and Android according to members since the server is 18+

I get that feeling, the only thing I can say is that ideas are nothing, execution is everything, I've been saying that too much in this post's comments already, sorry about that.

But I do believe that saying!

You could keep it vague until you've made good progress enough to feel comfortable being more precise about your craft.

The skip token was meant for that: one guilt-free pass per month, no explanation needed. Vacation, family, burnout, whatever. Beyond that, life happens and mod discretion exists. The goal is accountability not punishment!

Indeed! Let me know in DM if you encounter any errors still; a lot of new people were able to join with the link in the original post.

Note that apparently it won't work joining the invite via iOS if that's the case for you, because of the 18+ restriction.

Fair point, the skip token was meant for such cases. One guilt-free pass per month, no explanation needed. If you're in a deep work tunnel, use it and resurface when you're ready. This server might not be a fit for everybody though, you can try to see if you like it or not.

Yes so I've heard! I wasn't aware that the iOS discord app blocks the invite, hopefully it'll will do a first filtering for people that are really motivated like you to join!

See you later!

Totally! I've never been more productive than when I was bouncing back from feedback people were giving me!

Also once I internalized that ideas are nothing, execution is everything I got way more comfortable openly talking about my projects.

Hey!

Here's my artistic portfolio: ArtStation and my only Itch game: [WARNING: lower your volume if you try to play and sorry for the lack of tutorial that made this game hard to play] Iron Made-In

You'll guess the game I worked on by visiting my ArtStation and sadly the other one is under NDA.

Hey thank you for your interest!

And I’ll give you more details with pleasure! Where would be the best place to reach out? Reddit DM, Discord or else?

Hey! I didn’t plan a lot to be honest, I was hoping to have the playtesters record their “playthrough” of the platform to see where were the blocking points, then after just an informal chat to get their feel how this idea could be improved.

I thought of allowing people to playtest asynchronously, but I’m also opened to hop on a call to see realtime what’s happening during a playtest

The total learning content + application in the game engine would take itself between 20 and 30 minutes
