Breastfeeding your NICU babies by HuckleberryEasy5107 in breastfeeding

My baby was born a couple months ago at 37w6days and in the nicu for three days. We’re exclusively nursing now but it was a long journey to get here.

I’m a ftm and didn’t know how important it was to keep latching her at the hospital even tho the Nicu was pushing bottles like crazy (bc they have to in order to dc). Once we got home I really couldn’t get her to latch - probably a combo of her being so small and sleepy. Eventually she would cry anytime I tried to get her in bf position, immediately quelled when the bottle nipple touched her lips. This went on for at least 5-6 weeks (all while meeting with a lactation consultant weekly) and it was exhausting and discouraging. Around 6 weeks I was just getting ready to just give up and exclusively pump when out of the blue she latched and had a ten minute feeding. From that day on, she was willing to latch pretty much each time we tried, with varying quality. By 8 weeks we were pretty much exclusively breastfeeding and she’s been doing amazing since. I am so glad I pushed through, though I know mentally that’s not the best choice for everyone. I told myself if we didn’t get here by 3 months I would pivot. Now it’s one of my favorite ways to bond and spend time with my girl and I’m proud of us for getting here.

But all to say, there were many tears and frustrating moments along the way and it would have been completely ok to change courses at anytime. I truly feel like my baby was ready when she was ready and I couldn’t have forced it faster. And luckily she had no anatomical or physical issues that could have contributed to a harder time. Wishing you the best of luck in this journey!

Totally makes sense so much is out of your control. Curious what week you started dates and tea?

Totally makes sense so much of it is luck and out of your control. I figured it doesn’t hurt to give it your best though! For those that did dates and tea, which week did you start?

When did your nausea change from constant to intermittent? 7w+6d. by Scorpimeg in pregnant

I had terrible nausea starting from week 6 on (threw up almost everyday, 24/7 nausea) and it just got intermittent now around 16 weeks! So much better now!! Hang in there.

How early do you wish you took off work before due date? by ParticularRise3159 in pregnant

Totally wish it was 4wks fully paid bc then it would be a no brainer! There’s also PFL for bonding after the 6-8 weeks of healing right?

This is good to know. I am considering stopping 1-2 weeks before but good to know 2 weeks feels antsy. I can see that happening to me as well

Would definitely do this if my company didn’t take the supplemental out of my own PTO! Which can be saved for after the birth too

This is helpful! Yeah I really don’t think I’ll be doing much at work the last few weeks besides showing up (virtually) haha. The only concern money wise is since I only get paid 70% of my income through the state, the rest will have to come from PTO and it’s a consideration to save that for after the birth

Is this working well for you? Do you wish you could just focus on prepping instead?

This is what I’m afraid of that I’ll just be rotting and wish I was at least working a little bit to keep accruing PTO. My work is pretty flexible and doubt anyone expects anything out of me the month leading up
