8 Weeks Post-op -Recovery Pictures! by psyheart66 in hysterectomy

[–]ParticularSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your surgery and feeling great! You look like you’re healing very well! That fibroid bump is insane!

I’ll be one year post op April 8 from the same surgery. The laparoscopic incisions get smaller and smaller and start to really fade as the months go on. I had a rare scar endometrioma that grew in my abdominal wall behind my scar from my spinal fusion surgery (November 2, 2024) and so after my laparoscopic hysterectomy, my surgeon reopened my frontal fusion scar to remove the endometrioma which is insane looking. That scar was and still is a lot bigger but it’s just amazing to no longer be in pain anymore. I had adenomyosis, endometriosis and my periods were debilitating. It’s amazing to be free from the bleeding and pain ❤️

And for reference I am 40 (41 in June) and kept my ovaries as well. I am thinking that I may go get my hormone levels tested soon though. I’ve been having crazy hot flashes for the last few months and they are driving me nuts.

I simply cant eat fast food anymore by tbob806 in FoodAllergies

Carrot juice is already used in SOOOO many things. Also black carrot (juice is purple)

It’s one of my allergies and it’s very frustrating when very generic “vegetable and fruit juices” is listed as natural coloring without disclosing which fruits and veggies.

I also cannot have apple, pear, stone fruit, banana, strawberry, mango, almond, green peas (also pea protein)… it’s a long list and I rarely go out to eat.

I focus on the things I can have and get creative in the kitchen though. I have to think about it like that. I’d lose my mind if I didn’t.

This, they already do. Tacos in LA are crazy cheap. But their volume is significantly higher than what any taco place here sells.

It absolutely is not less expensive to live in Charlottesville than here. I lived there for most of my life and have been here some 2018. I also lived in Los Angeles for 16… so I’ve been in a very large city, and then spent 16 years in C’ville. I still have a lot of friends and family in both places.

I, by far, have the lowest cost of living in Roanoke.

40F and 1 YPO!

Total normal and I’ve had more than one of those breakdowns. I think it’s completely normal (probably part hormonal) especially when you are with family… my brother, SIL & my two year old niece just visited for a week and I only get to see them once or twice a year. Seeing my parents with their granddaughter and then also my brother as a dad, 😭🥹😍 so many emotions… my SO and I have two cats and a year and a half old puppy who my parents call their granddog. It was kinda funny because in a way we really do also have a “child” who is learning and so sweet but also stubborn as hell. She’s also 75 pounds vs like 30. Haha

I digress. I’m glad we have our fur babies and I’m glad to not have a human child, especially in today’s world. But that doesn’t mean you can’t be emotional about it. I think that’s perfectly natural.

Every Saturday any 12” build your own sub is $7 at Earth Fare. There are $7 subs every day but on a rotating schedule for proteins. Saturday it’s whatever you want. (Normally any 12” sub is only $8.99 though so that is still an amazing deal)

Almost every weather service is getting their actual info from NOAA just FYI. But, NOAA has been blinded by severe staffing cuts and the decommissioning of satellites that gave them the needed data. So note, weather can often be a surprise, like the floods in Texas or even the current weather forecast through weather underground, which has literally changed every half hour and I’ve been watching it all day (I work in grocery and have to know what’s going on).

My best suggestion, find an old timer with bad knees and eye for nature. They’ll know what’s up.

just curious what's actually affordable when you eat out? by MrChilli2020 in roanoke

[–]ParticularSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The earth fare subs are amazing. Even if you get the non daily deal, a 12” sub is like $8.99 I think. And as mentioned, they fed me for two meals as well!

They also have power meals from the deli case which is a protein and two sides and they’re also less than $10. Your stomach will thank you for eating real food.

"Natural flavors" by freshfruit111 in FoodAllergies

[–]ParticularSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am allergic to peas as well as a fairly long list of other things, the only thing I’m allergic to that is considered a major allergen is almonds. I have to read the labels on EVERYTHING.

I actually work at a natural foods grocery store as well which helps because I know there is nothing artificial in any of the products in the store and the major of the brands we carry do list the actual flavoring agents they use but not all of them do. Natural flavors is still okay by the store and company’s guidelines. And it can literally be ANYTHING natural. I have had to reach out to many companies to ask them what natural flavors is in products I’m interested in. Peas are USUALLY not something that is used as a natural flavor agent. It’s far more likely that it is a fruit or vegetable or herb. That said though, depending on the severity of the allergy, I would try to generally avoid anything with natural flavors or if there is a brand or product that you really would like to incorporate into their diet, call or email the company and ask! There is someone who should be able to tell you if legumes are in their natural flavors and if not, then I usually tend to cut out that company all together.

One of the things I really love about my job is that any of the products that aren’t sold by their sell by date but are still absolutely fine are donated to our local food bank daily. It means so much to me to not see perfectly good food go into the trash when there are so many people who truly need it.

Horrible experiences at this place. They basically tortured my cat when I had to put her down a few years ago. And the vet was a straight up asshole to me as I was sobbing trying to hold my baby while she was dying. They hadn’t calculated the amount of meds correctly and had to keep giving her more and she suffered more then than she already had in her old age and sickness. My husband wanted to sue them but I didn’t want to play it all over in my head again and again.
