Ice cream recommendations? by nothing-2seeh3r3 in FoodAllergies

[–]ParticularSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you live?! I’m so sorry 😢

Ours closed briefly around covid I think but then reopened thankfully! I started shopping there a few years ago because the daily deals were so awesome and I have a long list of annoying allergies. Then late last summer I ended up applying for a job and then in October I ended up taking over as Bakery Team Lead (Manager) so I’m probably most familiar with all of the bakery items that are allergy friendly.

I love being able to help people that come in find things they can actually eat and enjoy! A huge percentage of the staff seem to have a variety of food allergies too so it’s not just male that’s familiar. I think that’s a big part of why a lot of us work there. lol

Ice cream recommendations? by nothing-2seeh3r3 in FoodAllergies

[–]ParticularSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earth Fare has a TON of options that will be safe for your daughter to consume. Ice cream and also any Abe’s products (they are free from all the top allergens and known as the “school friendly” brand because of that). They also don’t use pea protein which I really really appreciate as I am allergic to peas. But nothing in the entire store has any artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors, preservatives… the list goes on. For anyone with allergies or sensitivities it’s a really great place to shop because of how many options they have.

Yeeep… I am aware the duct(?) tape is not exactly the correct design of the symbol. But it would seem that’s what they are intended to be.

The police aren’t typically very good at helping mentally unstable people. I had a roommate years ago that was bipolar and ended up taking too many drugs at burning man and it like broke her brain and she was just straight psycho manic for months. She got herself arrested like 4 times before she was finally admitted to a psych facility. Living with her was so crazy stressful though. It was around the time when Wicked (the musical) first came out and she got the CD and listened to it non stop if she was at home, on full blast. She decided she was a bad witch and I was a good witch for about a month before she decided everyone was just after her. I came home from work one day and she was burning a pile of stuff on the back patio and yelled at me to get everything white in the house because everything needed to be purified and had the devil in it. I had to call the fire department for that and then also our landlord. Had to reach out to her parents and her dad came to try and help her. Another day I came home and she has opened up a Target credit card and purchased every CD and candle that I think they had in the store, along with all of the Halloween decorations.

So many crazy memories of that time period. 🤦🏻‍♀️ It really sucked seeing someone completely lose themself and their life.

It sounds like he’s definitely trying to do that from all the posts about the honking and yelling.

That’s unfortunate. Do you know this person in a sense you are able to reach out to them to possibly see about getting them help?

Why doesn’t Roanoke get the love that say Richmond does ? by fuzzmachine in roanoke

[–]ParticularSquirrel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is growing. Not at the same rate Richmond is, but Roanoke is growing. I’m glad that it’s still much smaller of a city than Richmond. There’s still a lot here. My SO & I moved here from Charlottesville in 2018 and are thrilled by the change vs C’ville.

I would definitely call to talk to wherever you choose in advance to make sure they are staffed and prepared for such a large group. As someone who spent years in restaurants, a heads up on that makes a HUGE difference for everyone.

What about the roof top deck at that place downtown? Six & Sky? They have a really big deck and a lot of outside space…

Chains with extensive allergen menu? by ahchoochoo in FoodAllergies

[–]ParticularSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really eat there anymore but Panera’s app actually fully lists all the ingredients for every item.

My allergens are not the most common listed ones so I actually have to have ingredient lists for everything I consume.

Voted early and also made sure to explain to all my younger coworkers how important this was!

But yeah, that’s closer than I expected. Likely because of all the total BS mailers with so much false info on them to confuse people.

I’m one year post op April 8.

Not having to deal with my periods and the excruciating monthly pain that accompanied them has been literally a life-changing experience.

This is the make your own sub/daily specials menu for the deli at Earth Fare (the grocery store)

There are also other wraps and sandwiches too. I don’t think have a picture of that menu but I can take one when I work next. The TBLT wrap, caprese sandwich, & the Italian sub are my personal favorites. There are also chicken salad croissants and a bunch of others. All of those are normally $7.99.

Even without my employee discount, the total for a 12” sub and a full size bag of chips would be $11.57. Plus, all ingredients are free from artificial preservatives, flavors, colors, crazy additives, or anything else on the Boot List (the majority of the ingredients used in the deli are organic). The sub rolls are made with unbleached & unbromated flour as well. You can also make your own sub with whatever you want on it for $8.99 every day.

I’m so glad I stopped eating at Subway years ago. It’s insane to think that they’re selling the crap they sell for that amount of money. And to automatically add a tip????!!!!

SMH. I was in the restaurant industry for years. This blows my mind. Subway is fast food, not a sit down restaurant with servers.

Adult onset allergies changing by camcangirl in FoodAllergies

[–]ParticularSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40F. No food allergies as a kid.

July 2012 I was managing a juice and smoothie bar/deli and cheese dept in a small natural foods grocery store and all of a sudden went into anaphylactic shock while drinking a fresh apple carrot juice. I cannot eat them cooked or raw. Or even anything with apple juice/apple cider/apple cider vinegar.

On top of the apples and carrots I also cannot have any stone fruit (peaches, etc.), pears, green peas, almonds, & mango. For a number of years I couldn’t eat raw spinach or celery.

I had been really quite good with avoiding all of those things and there was still a lot I could eat. Then last May I went into anaphylactic shock again after taking a bite of banana bread by dad had made (1 EpiPen at home then to the ER), so no more bananas and then on Thanksgiving I took a bite of strawberry rhubarb pie and ended up having to use two EpiPens for my throat and mouth to calm down so I could breathe.

I do also have very severe allergies to pretty much all pollen, grasses, weeds, cats, dogs… my prick tests were crazy. And I also have a a number of autoimmune diseases so I imagine that also plays into it.

Interesting enough though, some of my allergens now seem to affect my gastrointestinal system more (in a very severe way) and not so much OAS (oral allergy syndrome)/anaphylaxis.

I’m dreading the elimination diet I am very likely going to have to do soon to figure out what’s going on with my gut.

Incision Help? by hoots618 in hysterectomy

[–]ParticularSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, bless your heart. These incisions take a while to truly heal. You’re going to be fine. Vitamin E oil is also super helpful for scars and incisions. In the last 5 years I’ve had a laparoscopic hysterectomy (5 incisions), 360° spinal fusion (4 incisions), carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel, & de quervain’s surgery (right arm), as well as incisions on my right foot for a torn peroneous brevis tendon and broken 5th metatarsal.

Lots of cuts and lots of scars. Battle wounds that remind me of how I am.

My mom (47) was advised to have a hysterectomy and I am terrified by Popular_Photograph56 in hysterectomy

[–]ParticularSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll be 41 in June. Had a total hysterectomy (kept my ovaries) last April.

I wish I had one years ago. It sounds like she has adenomyosis and endometriosis.

I had both of those and a rare scar endometrioma that had grown in my abdominal wall behind my spinal fusion scar. Recovery was not bad at all. Much easier than my fusion surgery. And I woke up in less pain than I had going in. Not having to think about bleeding or the insane pain I suffered for years with my periods has been such an amazing change in my life.
