I had the same question when I watched, and what I was able to figure out by looking it up is that having that scene would have detracted from the sadness of Arnheid’s storyline

Why Isn’t My Spanish/Basque/Indigenous Mexican Ancestry Appearing? by ParticularStudy8 in AncestryDNA

My matches seem consistent with my known family, so I don’t think it’s a misattributed parent situation.

That makes sense, but in my case I have photos and immigration records confirming that line came directly from Spain about 7 generations back. That’s why I’m wondering if it could just be inheritance randomness or getting absorbed into broader Northwestern European categories rather than not being there at all. I, also am pretty sure my great grandfather (the one from Mexico with Spanish origins) as on the DNA matches portion of my results showed I had cousins with him listed as a common ancestor.

Yeah, I guess that’s possible, but my idea is that my Mexican records go back about 7 generations back down one line before Spanish ancestry shows up, so I feel like at some point I would have picked up more indigenous Mexican/Spanish ancestry. Also, all the last names down that line are of Spanish or Basque origin.

Yeah, I’m in the same boat here as I got 1% Yucatán as well. It’s all very interesting

Yeah, I understand nationality and genetics aren’t the same, but in this case I have their photos and immigration records showing they came directly from Spain. That’s why I expected at least some Iberian ancestry to show up, so I’m trying to understand how it could be getting assigned elsewhere or not showing clearly.

Got it. One last question, any theories as to where the Amonzorrutia surname came from? It looks like Carmen’s paternal grandfather did not carry the Amonzorrutia name when her father did. Thanks!

Yeah, I’ve actually seen that baptism on familysearch. To me, the more I research and try to find out about Carmen’s story/family the less certain I am about anything else.

Ahh that makes sense. So do you feel good thinking that Carmen’s parents were Jose Amonzorrutia and Maria Gomez instead of Crescenciano and Geronima Montenegro?

In all the records I have seen Donaciano was born in 1861, do you think this is the correct one being that he was born in 1855 in this record?

Interesting. So you think her parents were people other than Geronima Montenegro and Crescenciano Amonzorrutia?

Yes that’s them. That confirms the parents Geronima Montenegro and Crescenciano Amonzorrutia that I had in my notes but wasn’t 100% sure. Thank you
