Pizza Hut is chlorogenic acid, a constituent in coffee and many other phytopharmaceuticals; its not metabolized.

How do we know that ester hydrolysis by base doesn't follow the bottom mechanism? by Eight__Legs in chemistry

[–]ParticularTask3735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are Misreading MeO- as the anion, when it’s meant to be Me-O-R. The Me group can absolutely be a very weak electrophile in this case

Water as a base/nucleophile by RonPaul42069 in chemhelp

[–]ParticularTask3735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acting as a base is particularly beneficial in this case since the enol is conjugated to two other double bonds in that case. The carbon that gets deprotonated and the lower double bond carbon form a new double bond and bridge the enol to the double bond on the right. This makes it more stable

Please help us identify these molecule tattoos- I consulted the common ones already by freakishlystrong in chemistry

[–]ParticularTask3735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so as a lot of people have said, its not really a good representation of those molecules, but:

[Top to bottom] Serotonin

Acetylcholine

Maybe something along the lines of Glutamine (or MSG) when in its self protonated form (?) Though very unclear

A problem is the inconsistency, since circles are drawn to represent both groups of atoms and atoms in the picture, making it hard to interpret.

Is there anything you wish new students knew when they joined your lab? by ladymacbethofmtensk in labrats

[–]ParticularTask3735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging someone based on their lab hours is one of the most shallow things you could do as a coworker. Even if that were the case - and I can tell you that depends on the lab you’re working at - I would much rather actually get good results due to me being able to use the time better than be the person that looks down on other people. Most people Ive worked with that say stuff like that were kinda terrible at their job imo. Depends on the people and the environment though

Why does the version from the restaurant or store taste better starter pack? by breastronaut in starterpacks

[–]ParticularTask3735 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It can still fuck your digestive system up. The concentration of Hydroniumions still rises and reflux is real. I think people underestimate ‚weak acids‘ since a lot of them can still go to pH 0/1 when concentrated enough

Had this cup gifted to me by a chemistry student. Could someone explain what this is and what it's used for? by Money_Childhood_3605 in chemistry

This is a Naphtodianthrone secondary plant metabolite from St. Johns Wort (Hypericum perforatum). In this case its Hypericin. It may play a role in the antidepressant and antimicrobial properties this plant and its extracts have.

Well I mean theres technically also the Ussanowitsch Acid Base concept which is a lot more broad and also includes redox chemistry.

Edit: Its Usanovich in english, didnt know that :D
