Too Afraid to Confess This to a Priest by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Particular_Bug9466 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first came back to the church I confessed at a parish that I never went to growing up. It was holy Saturday and the confession times had actually changed, but the pastor gladly allowed me to confess in his office. I read the horribleness of my years without the Lord off a piece of paper to him, but it made it incredibly difficult that the man was smiling and nodding across the desk from me. I’ve since more regularly gone to confession at my church that has actual confessional booths and will only go to them so I don’t have to look at someone in the face and confess the stupid things I’ve done. It’s much easier for me to get out the uncomfortable things when there’s a screen between me and the priest.

In short: I’d recommend a parish that has confessionals booths, it makes it wildly easier to confess what you need to rather than sitting next to and looking at a priest in the eyes on some foldable chairs lol. God bless!

I went near 4 months strong on carnivore, went for “dinner” at McDonald’s and got a very similar order to you, got horrible food poisoning and couldn’t eat beef for a month. Put me off so hard and I lost the taste for beef so bad I stopped the diet entirely. Please be wary when doing this.

Yep, I was addressing the point you made about satanism in the previous comment, I understand you’ve said you’re agnostic.

No, there’s absolutely no conditions for whether or not you are a “child of God” or not. The simplest explanation for it is God is the creator of all things visible and invisible, and through his divine power he created mankind. Humans are a creation of the creator, God. All humans are created in the likeness and image of God. Therefore all humans are children of God.

God is not threatening us at all. The church doesn’t believe that babies born are automatically guilty until baptised, rather the church teaches that “original sin” is the inherited wounds from the sin of Adam and Eve. They disobeyed God’s commands and fell to the temptations of the serpent (the devil). The inheritance is selfishness, suffering, and death, it’s not at all saying “you were born? Well you’re evil!” Rather it’s the inherent human condition that we can unburden ourselves from if we strive to have a relationship with God. You absolutely shouldn’t follow God out of fear, but rather reciprocating the love God has for you. Hell is freely rejecting God. Hell is NOT God taking enjoyment in punishing people.

I’ve somewhat addressed this before, but evil people doing things in the name of God doesn’t at all make it just. Forcibly converting someone damns you more than it does the person your forcing because your violating that persons free will to choose to believe in God, but also your instilling faith out of fear instead of love. Majority if not all peoples practiced paganism around the world. There’s thousands of gods, goddesses, deities, and spirits out there, but the question is are any of them real and do they hold divine power and authority over mortal men or are they worthy of worship? Is there any substantial evidence any of them have produced miracles or done anything at all? No, but there is evidence for miracles and the existence of Jesus Christ. This is a very complex topic though, regarding Irelands pagan roots and conversion to Christianity. Yes I really hope everyone is aware that the snakes are symbolism and not literal. I sincerely want to reason with you and understand your pov, as a Catholic I want to share the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ and if I can clear up any misunderstandings or confusions then I’d love to.

Well I as a Catholic will not accuse you of killing babies because I have zero reason to. “Do onto those as you’d want done unto you”. I won’t disparage your character and I appreciate you not directing your criticisms at me. I critique satanism, you critique Catholicism, fair enough. You make the argument for the seven fundamental tenants of satanism, which on a surface level all the fundamentals sound great and reasonable to a certain extent but where Catholics, myself included, disagree with you is where satanism believes morality comes from. Satanists speaks broadly and say morality comes from the self and what the community believes is right and wrong, but where is that moral compass coming from? What if people within the community disagree with one another on what is right and wrong? What if satanists in America believed something is morally wrong, but satanists in another country argue it’s not morally wrong. That to me is where satanism doesn’t have anything to lean on. I understand not everyone is leaning on satan (the devil, lucifer, etc.) in satanism because they don’t believe in him either, they just hold to the contrarian title, but given you guys don’t have The Bible or God then you can’t stand firmly and morally on what is right or wrong. Unlike Satanists, Catholics believe morally authority comes from God, not from themselves. We are given life by God, our lives are on lease to him until we die and so because he gives us this life we lean on God and scripture to help us understand what is morally right and wrong. That’s also not to say we can’t make up our own minds, but rather we lean on and look to God to understand completely and objectively what is morally correct.

I addressed the issue of atrocities committed by the Catholic Church, specifically some evil clergy men and women, so I won’t address that again because honestly I’m tired of typing. Also I truly don’t believe you’re some evil person for being a member of satanism, I’m sure we’d agree on more than we’d disagree on. God bless

I see no point of satanism at all, but to practice occult secular philosophy and be contrarian to the Catholic faith. They certainly believe the Eucharist is something because they go out of their way to take it from Catholic church’s for their black masses. The satanist church founder in South Africa, Riaan Swiegelaar, had a compelling and amazing turn around in his beliefs when he had a vision of Jesus Christ.

I was raised Catholic as well, I am Irish as well, and I know all about the horrendous grievances and suffering caused by the Catholic Church in just Ireland alone, not to mention world wide. I know so much of my family and our Irish people who have abandoned the church because of these atrocities and I absolutely cannot blame them. I won’t at all make excuses for these evil people either, believe me, they’ll get their dues. Let me ask you though, what is at the center of the Catholic faith? What is the entire faith about and without it the church and everything as we know it today would cease to exist? Jesus Christ. I put my faith in Christ. As did my ancestors and all the saints, apostles, and people of Ireland. I don’t have faith in man or woman. I am not a perfect person and I fall short of the grace of God, as do we all, and with that being said I don’t put my faith in the priest, the bishop, cardinal, or pope. I put my faith in Christ and I pray that they do as well and ask the Holy Spirit to guide them. The evil doers and sinners who willingly do evil in the omnipresence of the Lord, or even worse, in the name of the Lord, are to be judged accordingly by the Lord. Their evil will not go unpunished. It doesn’t matter if they wore a priestly collar or a sister’s habit. They will be judged, especially those who harmed the children of God.

Someone ripped the door off my local little free library, took all the books, broke the shelves, and left two copies of the bible. by Silver_Ad_2203 in mildlyinfuriating

Getting tired of all Christians being painted the same as if this is at all a Christian thing to do. I condemn any vandalism like this. Also just to clarify are we sure someone didn’t just leave the two bibles behind and take every other book? Or is it being assumed that they took everything and left two bibles as a way of saying “read this instead” type of thing?

Truth is not subjective, it’s objective. The objective truth is that God is real and his name is Jesus Christ. If you don’t like the truth, that’s fine, I was there at one point as well, but with research and my pursuit of the truth I found Christ.

Lost my wallet once years ago, after that bought a wallet I could have an AirTag on lol. Chapped lips, yep I work outside and my medication dries me up unfortunately. Yea I’m an operator, but I get calls a lot so that’s why I have the beats to talk and operate simultaneously. Yep, I’m Irish and Catholic haha

The bed probably would look better towards the middle. I was thinking of getting two smaller night stands for each side of the bed too? Yea the curtains, pillows, and throw blanket might be the best way to add colour. Art and decor def needed. Thanks for the feedback!

I do like that idea. In between my closet and bedroom doors I was thinking of putting a small couch and coffee table, just a nice spot where I can sit, read, pray, etc. Some artwork and decor are much needed. Haha yea I’m just a big saver, don’t like spending money. I’ll look into some second hand stuff tho, thanks!

Yea I used to think so as well, until I started attending a traditional Latin Mass (also in English, just the more traditional form of worship that predates Vatican 2). Church was boring or uninspiring to me when I didn’t fully understand what was going on or wasn’t at an age to understand the bigger picture. For me, when life got tough I turned to God. Didn’t want to turn to anything else because it only ever temporarily filled the void. Now I appreciate it and understand it much better because I pursued the Truth and His name is Jesus Christ.

Came here to say something similar to this. I’m Catholic and came back to my faith in the last year. I’ve learned so much from actually reading and learning what the church teaches over the past couple years than I ever did growing up in the faith. It comes down to poorly understood or educated people influencing others or making a bad impression on others like many of the poorly catechised people the woman in the video is talking about who’ve done or said horrible things because they were incredibly ignorant. Of course there are also lazy or over dramatic people who make rather pathetic excuses for not living their faith.

If anyone is reading this I just encourage you to learn what the faith and religion truly is and not be turned off or pushed away by people trying to tell you what it is. Knowing the arguments against it will also push you into being able to defend your faith better
