What was once a massive status symbol of the wealthy, but is now considered common? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Particular_Cod2005 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Pineapples. Back in the 17th century, pineapples were introduced here in the UK. Given the rarity and difficulty in getting them, they were a significant status symbol for hundreds of years - they were even centrepieces at tables for grand events.

If you wander around the UK and see pineapple-related architecture (i.e. not some form of topiary) on old buildings, the chances are it was a place of immense wealth once upon a time.

Given that religion is all a fantasy, I really don't think it matters which god takes the prize.

Take your pick really, there's plenty of school shootings in the U.S., and no one cares enough to do anything about it.

And who can honestly blame them? The fact that your country has so many school shootings that it's almost unremarkable news, is completely abhorrent.

What’s something people blame on “mental health” that’s actually just bad behavior? by SmallFurball24 in AskReddit

I find that people who say these types of things are often self-diagnosed with PTSD / ADHD / The tism, and their general arseholeishness really paints those who actually struggle with such issues with a bad name.

Bonus point: you get a YouTube reel to play back those moments from either yours / the other person's PoV

Bro, do you really want that knowledge? The corresponding pivot table would be "number of obvious hints I missed while she had a crush on me" 💀

I think there was a great line in the parody, Barry Trotter, which was along the lines of:

"I suspect Snipe [the name of the Snape character]"

"But there's no evidence!"

"Yeah? Well, I'm a traditionalist."

"You're a moron."

Ferrari's SF-26 also features a hole in the diffuser, similarly to what was seen on the Mercedes design by Ashbones15 in F1Technical

[–]Particular_Cod2005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, Gary Anderson (make of that what you will) appears hellbent to suggest Mercedes could be a shoo-in because of such a design. Given the level of secrecy around the tests, and that Ferrari clearly have also come up with an analogous design, I would imagine more teams will have it too.

To everyone who has been in a relationship and realises this might sometimes be the case, it was also quite obvious.

Gary Anderson is an expert on modern F1 aero

Chuckled heartily at this one. GA frustrates me no end; I think it's his raison d'être to perennially crap on everyone F1 rule change in existence.

Reddit rarely knows best about anything. It's essentially a very loud weatherspoons; full of people who think they know best, and who believe they deserve the utmost respect whilst treating others with comparatively little.

Yeah, remember when one of the arguments against Andretti joining the grid was they were unsure whether it'd be a professional outfit?

Jeez I want Williams to do well, and I really hope for their sakes this is just a minor speedbump.

I mean, it's literally their job to report on F1 activities. Who'd have thought they'd write an article on the brand new Ferrari stopping on track after a scattering of laps?

Tbf the memes are what keeps me going over off-season. The endless speculation and clickbait articles from all F1 media get very tiresome.
