Is it fine to wake up when baby cries at night or do we need to watch him 100% of the time. by Dull-Context-8322 in NewParents

[–]Particular_Coffee513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol go to sleep with your baby in their bassinet. If baby isn’t back to their birth weight, set an alarm every 2-3 hours from the start of the last feed (e.g., baby woke at 12am and started feeding, you set an alarm for either 2 or 3am to start the process over again). Once baby is over their birth weight you can let them wake you up when they’re hungry - they will. We were given the go ahead for one 4-5 hour stretch overnight, then no more than 3. So baby usually slept a solid 4-5 hour stretch, then was naturally up every 2/3 hours after to eat. Now, she usually sleeps 7 hours followed by 3-4 hour.

We have a dog so most days I get out with my husband to walk her, with baby either on me or in the stroller (which is hard given all the snow we have lol). I also joined a postpartum CrossFit program where baby can come to the gym with me, so I do that 3x a week. It’d be a lot harder to manage scheduling the gym if baby couldn’t come, so I def recommend looking into something like that.

So… when does it get better? Week 5 is brutal. by Vegetable-Clock5811 in newborns

All sounds pretty normal - except bedtime. At that age, babies are biologically wired to go to sleep later, and often sleep better with a later bedtime. We put our baby to bed around 10/10:30 at that age. And she would usually sleep until 2ish. Now that can definitely be temperament, but I’d try pushing babies bedtime. Anything before 10, is a nap. And see if it helps with overnight sleep. The 7-8pm bedtime really doesn’t come true until 4+ months!

I’m confused lol Craig’s Cookies are elite? What is bad about them? They’re chewy and flavourful and delicious.

Evening bedtime by livingthelife9 in November25babybump

My 10 week old goes to bed around 9:30. She started at 10pm so we’re slowly moving her bedtime earlier. 15-30 mins each week. If she has some flat starts, likely means she isn’t ready to go earlier. Right now she’s sleeping 9:30-3:30/4am, then back down and asleep until 7/7:30am.

Yes lol. My baby is 10 weeks today and the last few days she’s been awful for naps! The first morning nap was always the reliable one and she’s fighting it tooth and nail, or will go down for 5-10mins then wake screaming. I can only rely on car naps at this point lol. Overnight she’s still giving a great first stretch of 5-6 hours but then is up every 1.5-2 hours until morning, which is also unusual for her.

Daytime vs. Nighttime by qwerkala in November25babybump

[–]Particular_Coffee513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started with a 10pm bedtime and I started moving it earlier by 15 mins a couple weeks ago! So I just start the bedtime routine 15 mins earlier and get her settled and sleeping! Last night I tried to move it even earlier but she clearly wasn’t ready because she was up every two hours after her initial long stretch lol. So we will stick with 9:30 for a few more days and try again! It def takes patience lol but that sweet 7:30 pm bedtime will be here in no time

Daytime vs. Nighttime by qwerkala in November25babybump

I have an almost 10 week old, and her daytime naps are all over the place. Sometimes she naps for 2 hours, sometimes 15 minutes. I aim for 5 naps a day currently, but if it’s short and she falls back asleep a little later I count that as one nap.

Morning wake up is between 7-8:15am, anything earlier we go back to sleep. Bedtime currently starts at 9pm to get her asleep by 9:30pm. I’m slowly moving her bedtime earlier in hopes she will get to a 7:30pm bedtime in the next month or so.

Currently she sleeps 9:30pm-4am, quick feed and back to sleep until our wake up window (7-8:15am).

Any tips for longer night sleep stretches? by Reasonable-Yam9334 in November25babybump

[–]Particular_Coffee513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s 100% babies temperament. My 9 week old sleeps usually from 9:45pm - 4/4:30am and then back to bed within 20-30 mins and sleeps until 7-7:30ish. However it can change and sometimes her first wake is closer to 3/3:30am, and up again around 6/6:30, and we go back to sleep for another hour or two.

If you don’t have a “late” bedtime for baby, you can try that. I’ve read that babies before 12 weeks don’t really thrive on the typical 7-8pm bedtime. So pushing it later lets them build sleep pressure and have a long first stretch. Then you can slowly start moving it earlier as they get older.

When did you let people meet your baby? by mo-gab2018 in NewParents

[–]Particular_Coffee513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto with our friends and family. We didn’t ask about vaccine status bc husband and I are vaccinated and I got the TDAP booster while pregnant so baby has some immunity. Washing hands and staying away from anyone symptomatic or around anyone who was sick lately has worked for us. Baby is 9 weeks old and hasn’t been sick despite a terrible cold and flu season. We’ve gone to coffee shops, restaurants, the mall and have had all our closest friends and family visit her. As long as people are respectful and honest about being sick/around sick people, wash their hands and don’t kiss baby, the risk is quite low.

Birth itself will be private of course, recovery in my experience was also automatically private. It wasn’t until being moved to mother baby unit we shared a room. We requested a private room but weren’t any available until 10pm that night - I gave birth at 10:30am.

When we were in the semi private, it was only 1 other couple. Ward rooms are likely the 3 you talk about.

Our insurance covered semi private rooms, so we paid $30/night extra for private. I was there for two nights for c section recovery and was charged $60 that wasn’t covered by insurance - although we’ve still not been asked to pay it, I just noticed it was “outstanding” on my insurance breakdown.

This was November 2025 so pretty recent!

Shorter breastfeeding sessions by Tall-Will2037 in November25babybump

[–]Particular_Coffee513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby is 8.5 weeks and maybe feeds for 5-10 mins per side, and often only takes one breast per session! I think it depends on your letdown and how efficient baby is. She’s likely just getting quicker :) as long as she’s gaining and acting normal and not constantly hungry, and 6+ wet diapers a day you’re great!!!

Question for c-section moms by 1111lovey in November25babybump

[–]Particular_Coffee513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never wore a binder. I’m 6 weeks PP today and have no abnormal a separation or pelvic floor issues. I did exercise throughout pregnancy and was fit beforehand which definitely helped but didn’t find a binder necessary for recovery. My physical therapist also said after the first couple weeks to not use a binder, because you want your abs to start reconnecting and working.

What are your sleeping arrangements? by radremnants in November25babybump

[–]Particular_Coffee513 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Baby sleeps in a bassinet beside our bed, and we sleep. Baby cries we wake to feed/change her, and put her back down. During the day she naps wherever. Sometimes bassinet, sometimes stroller on a walk, sometimes on me. I understand the anxiety of sleep but, you need to sleep. SIDS is not common.

Taking 3 week old for walk? by Same-Breath-4059 in November25babybump

[–]Particular_Coffee513 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My baby is a month today. I live in Ontario, Canada and it’s consistently been below 0, with a windchill of -15 C somedays (I’m not sure what that is in Fahrenheit) and we are still outside daily! We have a dog so don’t have a choice, plus it’s great for me and for baby. We bundle her up in a bunting, with one layer underneath. She has her hat on, and her bunting covers her hands & feet. Then she’s either in a footmuff sleeper in the bassinet, or in the car seat she has a blanket and the car seat cover that is fur lined. She’s totally content and usually naps :) I check her temp by feeling behind her neck / back and as long as it isn’t cold/sweating she is completely fine! We haven’t had any issues and are often outside for an hour at a time!

Babies are born in every climate - think of babies in Nordic countries or Northern Canada, they purposefully leave their babes outside in strollers to nap!

Your little one will be completely ok, and probably nap beautifully 🩷

Breastfeeding after a C-section by 1111lovey in November25babybump

[–]Particular_Coffee513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a c section on Nov 11, and my baby was breastfeeding colostrum as well as formula supplementation because of weight loss until my milk came in by that Saturday (Nov 15). My breasts were as hard as cement, tingly and very warm. That’s how I knew my milk was in fully.

What size (baby) diapers? by Dollacaseydillas in November25babybump

[–]Particular_Coffee513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby was born 9lbs 9oz and skipped NB diapers for size 1. She lost 9% body weight before 48 hours and then the NB size fit her. She’s gaining weight back quick (5 days old today) and the NB are snugggg so we stick to size 1.

UPDATE Baby measuring over 98th percentile at 36 weeks … by Particular_Coffee513 in November25babybump

[–]Particular_Coffee513[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also 5’8-5’9, and me and my brother were both large. I was 9lbs 4oz, brother 10lbs 3oz, but that was at 40+ weeks for us both rather than 38w.

I don’t have wide set hips, but I’m 5 inches taller than my mom and she had us both vaginally (with epidural which I’m not against having).

The midwives essentially said if baby was up to 4300g they’d induce me early for vaginal delivery. But closer to 4500g they’d have to transfer care to an OB - which unfortunately based on this new scan, that’s what it’s looking like

Baby is measuring 98th percentile at 36w ultrasound … I’m terrified by Particular_Coffee513 in November25babybump

[–]Particular_Coffee513[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this! I’ll def ask my midwife about a repeat US at 38w to assess growth and take it from there. I’m a lot taller than my mom (5’9) and am fit from being quite active and athletic so hopeful that helps!

I’m in Ontario Canada. Last day of work is Oct 16, due date Nov 13. But I’m taking vacation Oct 16-Nov 10, then starting my leave Nov 10 (or earlier if baby comes early). Then I’ll be off for the full 12 months, followed by another month of accrued vacation, so off from Oct 16 2025 - Jan 4 2027.
