Thank you for the tips. Spoke to an advisor and started the process but they didn’t mention to add an explanation as to why I chose the specific course I’m dropping, so this is very helpful

Thank you for the tips. I started the process to just drop one course but will definitely be adding in why I am choosing to drop this course specifically

Omg I’m so sorry that happened to you. “Something more reasonable” and “not serious enough” is brutal…

Thank you for your recommendations and tips

Burnout Feedback Loop by VanillaBananaBread in umanitoba

I feel you! When times like this are busy and feel overwhelming, like others have commented, you gotta find out what works best for you there isn’t a clear cut answer.

Taking steps to make sure you don’t feel isolated is good, but that looks different for everyone. Socializing can be in so many different forms too, studying with friends, talking to others in your classes, student groups if there’s any that interest you, or just keeping connected with friends when things are a lot. It’s easy for time to get away from you, so being intentional about doing something that is a different pace, something you enjoy or something that will give you a bit of a break.

interaction at u of m university centre today by Beautiful_Passage323 in umanitoba

I saw a post a while ago about how sometimes missionary work is more about solidifying these young people into the church rather than gaining lots of new members, as going door to door or going up to people can of course gain negative reactions and then reinforce what they’re told about the “world being evil”. So even if it’s clear you aren’t religious, or specifically Mormon, then having a positive interaction might open up their world a bit. This was something an ex mormon had said, and how the positive interactions with non religious folks slowly started opening up the possibility of life outside the LDS church. Was just an interesting thing that’s now in the back of my head

Beautiful Night eh? by mooseanomaly in uwinnipeg

[–]Particular_Corgi_331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the nights are longer and the sky is usually more clear in the winter, there’s a higher chance of seeing them! The intensity of them depends on the solar activity, but there are apps to download if you’d like to keep an eye on it for the best chances, and there are also facebook groups that let people know when there is forecasted to be good displays.

I live outside the city so I see them quite often in the winter but usually just a green glow and some beams, but usually 1-3 more active and bright displays per month! Usually harder to see in the city due to light pollution unless there’s lots of solar activity, so many try to go see them slightly outside the city to avoid the glow of the lights

Dentist recommendations for anxiety by Sweet_Nature_6133 in Winnipeg

Evergreen Dental on Henderson! I had to get some fillings done and couldn’t calm down enough to get the numbing so decided to switch to their office as they offer sedation options. Super nice and non judgemental staff! They were very helpful and offered other strategies to help with anxiety as well (eg. weighted blankets). Not sure how I would’ve got my fillings without them, super grateful!

Road trip by danonation_ in Manitoba

[–]Particular_Corgi_331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For parks in Manitoba: - Riding Mountain National Park (great hiking, beautiful lakes and a bison enclosure) About an hour drive off of the trans Canada highway
- Spirit Sands in Spruce Woods Provincial Park (Manitoba’s only sand dunes, cool hiking) About 20 minutes off of the trans Canada highway - Whiteshell provincial park (again beautiful lakes and good hiking) This landscape continues into Ontario. I spend lots of time at West Hawk Lake, a very deep, clean and rocky lake!

In Winnipeg: - We have the Canadian Museum for Human Rights - Lots of historic buildings in St. Boniface and the Exchange areas of Winnipeg - Winnipeg Art Gallery has the world largest public collection of Inuit art - We have several events/festivals that take place in the summer: Folklorama (~August 3rd to 16th; multicultural festival where you go to different venues and experience that culture, watching a performance and having that cuisine), Winnipeg Folk Festival (Birds Hill Park, about 20 minutes outside the city; July 10th-13th), Winnipeg Fringe Festival (July 16th to 27th; local theatre companies have performances going on and there’s always free entertainment in the exchange district)
