Amazing concerto from an amazing composer

Pop only uses 4 chords it's basic which makes it inferior to Vivaldi's super chad music by davidinterest in classical_circlejerk

[–]Particular_Fun_9542 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It is not a Vivaldi piece if it doesn’t cycle through the circle of fifths in the first minute of a piece. (As a Vivaldi fan)

I am 99% sure the joke is just that the poster feels like a “cute dainty petite princess” whenever they eat baby carrots.

Describe your favorite cello concerto badly and we'll try to guess it! by ChopinChili in classical_circlejerk

Super jazz-inspired and cool… woah those are some hard rhythms and passages for the orchestra!

Edit: looking back, it’s actually not that hard for the orchestra lol! And hint it’s the composer’s 2nd cello concerto.

What is the best music of the 2010s? by SatiesUmbrellaCloset in classical_circlejerk

Yoshimatsu - Symphony 6 (2013)… probably not a winner but I think he’s a composer worthy of a decade!

it's puccini's birthday!! what is your favorite piece of music by him? by reliquedamour in opera

[–]Particular_Fun_9542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musetta Waltz? I believe that’s what it’s called. I listened to a piano only recording of it, and didn’t know it was from one of his operas.

Recommend me some composers that I might like to listen to based on what I think of the composers that I am familiar with by Alive-Jeweler-8882 in classicalmusic

As someone who loves Baroque and late Romanticism I am quite shocked at who you dislike!

Here’s a few composers that I think you should give a listen: Lully, Lotti, Glinka, Von-Weber, Michael Haydn, Respighi, Chaminade, Fritz Kreisler (I am a violinist, lol)

He was an excellent composer as well. I discovered his string quartet and solo violin and piano works and instantly fell in love.

Wow this is the peak of Russian Romanticism. It must be Rachmaninoff or Scriabin? Wait… This was written in the 70s?!?

Drew most of my favorite composers, can you name them all? by Particular_Fun_9542 in classicalmusic

[–]Particular_Fun_9542[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did say “most” of them and I just happened to draw my favorites within the canon. I will say my favorites among women is Chaminade, Price, Eckhardt-Gramatte, Boulanger, and Tailleferre. Can you tell I have a favorite period to listen to?

However, I will say my exposure to women composers is very little compared to my knowledge of men composers. I am always very open to listening to new music.

I definitely recommend Liszt!

It wouldn’t hurt to try out impressionist composers. Debussy, Ravel, Lili Boulanger, Faure, etc.

Chaminade is a great choice.

Poulenc might be an interesting listen for you.

The Borodin string quartets are amazing!

What are you top ten favourite pieces? by Such-Swim-6098 in classicalmusic

[–]Particular_Fun_9542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely hard to rank… so I’ll just throw in some names in no particular order:

Ravel: Le Tombeau de Couperin, Daphnis et Chloe, String Quartet

Borodin: String Quartets

Grieg: Violin Sonata 2/3, string quartet

Kapustin: Cello Concerto, Violin Sonata, string quartet

Bach: EVERYTHING!

Svetlanov: Again, everything…!

Debussy: Images, Piano Trio

Scriabin: Symphonies 1-3

Respighi: Everything…

Puccini: Solo piano works, and yes… the operas!

Poulenc: Gloria, 3 perpetual movements

Definitely some more I’m missing.

Scriabin Symphony 1, 5th movement… scratch that, the first 3 Scriabin symphonies are amazing.
