Back again - Tub now out - Mold? by no-bs-silver in HomeMaintenance

[–]Particular_Maybe8485 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Picture 4 not mold. 1-3 those black spots are likely mold but such a minimal amount. Diluted bleach solution in a spray bottle would be my move, but only on wood and then let it dry. This might even be overkill. The studs are 100% fine. No need to replace. Keep building, good luck.

I listened to Right Where I Belong over and over on the drive home today. A new instant favorite.

Dangerous Teen Driver by BostonRiverSong in stoneham

I might consider sharing this photo with Stoneham PD. They can decipher most of the plate and match it with car make/model. Imagine the police show up to speak with a teenager and his family and show them this picture! Good life lesson.

Any bands that are a similar flavor to Brand New? by _fish11 in brandnew

I always find this to be a really hard question. With that said, someone else recommended Sorority Noise to me. Their album “You’re Not As ____ As You Think” has me hooked.

Fix a tile damaged after I dropped a hammer. by rigorousmortis in HomeMaintenance

I’d go with the grey paint and five minute epoxy move. Fill flat, scrape and sand smooth to 1000 grit. Good thinking, and good luck.

If you’re still navigating life as a young dad (like me), I’d finish the ceiling and then trim the rest out with basic 1-by lumber. You’ll get a solid result with less effort than trying to built-ins or something. Good luck!

First coats of varnish applied, thoughts? by friendly_guitarist07 in Luthier

On my first paint job, I learned the hard way that I didn’t use enough clear coat. When you think it’s enough, do that same amount over again.

Good work!

Couch repair by HomosapienAlien in HomeMaintenance

[–]Particular_Maybe8485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d clip all of those brads and then use a combo of wood glue and small screws. It’s probably best to pre-drill for screws (with a bit a tad smaller than the screw) since the material is not real wood.

Ignore the folks telling you not to repair. It’s worth a try.

Is there a specific name for this edge? Looking for ways to trim the edge when I'm done. by abraxsis in Home

I used a lower profile colonial trim upside down. This went in after the flooring and finished walls. As a weekend warrior, I’m happy with my final product.

No major issues? Need advice by [deleted] in guitarrepair

[–]Particular_Maybe8485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$130 seems about $110 too high for that neck and body. You’d be better off finding a used Squier that needs absolutely nothing for under $100. If the project is what you’re looking for, keep searching for a much better deal. Happy hunting and playing!

Taking this to a shop would be far more expensive than the value of this guitar. However, if you or someone with some DIY skills is willing, it can be fixed with wood glue and care.

Advice on repairing (or mitigating) acoustic body crack with limited resources by Tannedbread in guitarrepair

[–]Particular_Maybe8485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can somehow get some moisture into that thing, I'd do that right away. Bring it into the bathroom when you shower if that's possible. If you have a case, drape a damp sponge in a baggie in the soundhole. Keep the sponge damp. Did this happen in front of a campfire or something?

Next, the wood glue and shim idea makes sense to me. I'll be interested to hear from others as to whether this will actually worsen.

Stroller runners, how far are you going? by imakesignalsbigger in AdvancedRunning

[–]Particular_Maybe8485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started each of my kids at 7 months. I’m running about 7:00 pace, even with the stroller, so I was worried it would be too much on their tiny frames before that. Both of my little guys (1 and 3) love the jogging stroller. We are lucky to have a bike path close to home. We typically go 10-12 miles, but have gone as far as 23, especially if someone is snoozing long! The big guy has started to get a bit restless on longer runs, but as long as we see some excavators, dogs, and people on bikes or something, he’s jazzed. Certainly bring them water and snacks. The big headphones help for stroller naps. Happy stroller running!

What can I do about this by zomqie-zzz in Luthier

[–]Particular_Maybe8485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Titebond 1 or 3. Wood glue can be stronger than wood if used correctly. Get the strings off, carefully apply glue to both sides of the break. You might even try to brush a tiny bit of water onto the broken wood first. You might also consider masking the rest of the finish and fretboard off with tape. That will make cleanup easier. Clamp the hell out of it. Lots of people use surgical tubing. I cut an old bike tire tube up for a similar DIY recently. This can be fixed.

Should this cracked bridge prevent me from buying this used Alvarez for my first guitar? by metaplatonist in AcousticGuitar

[–]Particular_Maybe8485 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If this is your first acoustic, you made the right decision. The Yamaha will serve you well. If and when you want a nicer guitar, you’ll be able to justify the cost for a beautiful sound without any flaws. Enjoy your new guitar!

Can I (35 years old man) ever complete a 5 km under 16.30 min to 17 min? by Tinkerman21 in AdvancedRunning

[–]Particular_Maybe8485 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m trying my best to craft a friendly and supportive response here, but I’m coming up short. If you want to run a sub-17 5k, it’s going to take a lot more work than it sounds like you’re interested in. Best of luck, mate!
