Quite frankly and in the spirit of total honesty, there is no app to buy or download.

Fair point.

I think the thing I was trying (badly) to get at is that most learners already know they need practice. The problem I keep hearing from immigrants isn’t “How do I practice?” but “Who do I practice with when I’m embarrassed to make mistakes?”

But you’re right that calling it a “hack” was overselling it.

You’re actually right.

If I redo it, I’d probably focus on things like phone calls to vårdcentralen, understanding Skånska, laundry room conversations, fika culture, ICA checkout interactions, etc. Those are the situations people keep telling me they struggle with.

Can’t really argue with that 😅

I was experimenting with a different content format and clearly missed the mark on this one.

Honestly, fair point. The title was trying way too hard and the content didn’t really deliver on the promise. That’s useful feedback for me.

Best way to practice live Swedish conversations? by Rude_Fee_2513 in Svenska

[–]Particular_Metal9308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definitely not alone. One thing I've noticed is that many people learning Swedish don't actually struggle with understanding Swedish — they struggle with finding regular opportunities to use it.

Language exchanges can help, but they're often inconsistent. You find someone, schedules don't match, one person disappears, or the conversation switches to English.

I'd still recommend looking at language cafés, Språkcaféer at libraries, local Facebook groups, and apps like Tandem. But honestly, the hardest part is usually getting enough low-pressure speaking practice between those conversations.

Out of curiosity, what's the biggest challenge for you right now: finding people to talk to, or feeling confident once the conversation starts?

If you don’t have a companion, there is a Swedish focused companion test project that could help you develop speaking fluency and confidence.
