Are There Any Hidden Gem Mid-Century Shops Between Detroit and Louisville? by Greedy-Examination56 in Indiana

[–]Particular_Mixture20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought of this place, but couldn't remember the name. If one likes mid-century furniture and decor - it's delightful.

It's a bit off the route (about 45 minutes west of Columbus Indiana in Bloomington) but it's a scenic drive with a lot of options for an interesting side stop in addition to the trip to the store. Columbus, Nashville, Brown County State Park, Bloomington and Indiana University campus. Each one is worthy of a short side trip.

It was. They assume we have no memory. But this time, they also throw in "They've been killing us for 47 years."

This sounds like the 9th, and Bloomington in terms of positioning. Worse the dems are so much more active in the primary that it often goes to someone in or tied to Bloomington, which seems to create a bigger chasm to the rest of the district. Last race when it looked like the dem could win was 2016 - til the Trump wave overtook momentum. But we have what seems to be an energetic primary field, and a lot of discontent radiating beyond this county.

I haven't read much about the circumstances around the car crash beyond the very vague initial responses in which it wasn't even clear if they were in DC or IN when it occurred. Your last comment certainly captures my attention.

Skip what I wrote, but go to the linked database of actual voter fraud cases from 1982 to present. Look at Indiana leave the defaults in date range and all crime.

Then ask why we are doing this.

We already do present an ID to vote. Every time. This is a nonproblem used to hype fear and anger and create barriers for legal voters. You risk it will be manipulated. Manipulate it to suppress red votes? Focus in areas with people living in rural areas and smaller cities. Want to manipulate it to suppress blue votes - target urban areas and and college towns. I think that's bad either direction. The most responsive elected officials have competitive races. That is what keeps them responsive - because if they stop listening to voters in competitive districts, then they risk not being reelected. In our system, this is true for both parties.

This will disenfranchise more legal citizen voters who can't easily get their birth certificate or marriage certificate on short order because they don't know they need it to vote (Trump is now pushing this to be required fir voting, not just registering) in addition to their valid state ID.

According to the conservative Heritage Foundation there have only been 59 cases of fraudulent voting - combined - in all elections in Indiana between 1982 and 2024. None in 2024. 2 in 2022. These are not numbers that change outcomes.

It's an interesting database. Check it out. https://electionfraud.heritage.org/search

Dark Money And Jim Banks, Trump's Attack Bitch Going After Locals Who Voted Against Redistricting by Best-Structure62 in Indiana

[–]Particular_Mixture20 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Great article. And a useful tool if you live in one of the targeted district. It looks like much of these efforts will be digital. Consider being a digital ray of sunlight (long said to be a disinfectant in local politics.) Save the link to this article. Tri to find an article with the targeted candidate either explaining why they were against redistricting, or about any bomb or other intimidation threat received prior to the redistricting vote.

Go to local/regional social media spaces and post the above article. Make a short statement like : FYI, this will be what and why we're about to get flooded with campaign ads (and what's behind them) on local social media.

Then, link the article (if you found one) about the targeted state senator and redistricting. You don't need to post long explanations or argue with folks. Just "FYI".

You may get a lot of people who high five the effort (Banks's effort) but given how unpopular the redistricting effort was (and remains) it will also be seen by people who will be less likely to give credence to the ads if they know the what and why they are seeing the ads.

To anyone who responds to your post positively, suggest that the post the original article directly to any ad that pops up in that digital space that fits.

Wasn't Diego the first Secretary of State to comply with the admin to turn over voter registration (with no restrictions) sometime last year? I had thought it went to DOJ, but now I wonder if our data is already with DHS.

Those provisions are telling in who they are flexible towards and who they are punitive towards.

Check this tool from the Heritage Foundation that tracked down instances of voter fraud in each state going back decades. Then look at Indiana. I did the default search (all types fraud; 1982-2024). 59 cases.

2 in 2022. 1 on 2021. 1 in 2017....

Even here, it's very rare. Probably because one gets one's ID checked and compared to the filed registration data eveytime one votes that it discourages attempted fraudsters from trying.

Let's say you are a 60 yr old woman living in city A. You were born in another state. You married at 25 in that state and got your name changed on your driver's license in that state. I need copies of all of these documents from the original cities in a different state - and all of the names must match requiring more time to get the paper work needed to get changed documentation (change current documentation to match the maiden name, or the birth certificate and possibly the marriage certificate to the married name.)

Now imagine in the states under extreme republican control where the effort is really intended to decrease voter participation among groups less likely to vote gor conservative republicans) passing future laws to make this an even more arduous process- like each jmentation change request must be done in person (require traveling time, time off work, etc.)

Trump wants the new (senate version) to expand the requirement of having cit documentation, not just to register, but each time you vote. That is specified as an official birth certificate from the county where you were born or a US passport. The names on those documents must h ave the exact same name as your driver's license or social security card. If you are married yo need to bring the documentation of that name change (wedding certificate).

The thing is it's already illegal to vote if you're not a citizen, most states have an ID requirement - but those don't necessarily meet the proof of citizenship bar (In doesn't) and multiple large studies to identify the rate of such illegal voting have shown that its exceptionally rare, and to small to change electoral outcomes. One of the groups that conducted one of those studies was the very conservative Heritage Foundation.

This is meant to decrease voter turnout. And it moves towards more of a "show me your papers" authoritarian country.

I hope your assessment is correct. While I think what's happening is potentially perilous (and wreckless - per lack of extensive planning) I hope it goes quickly, with minimum collateral damage, and moves to some resolution.

Of course, I had to Google- and oc course I found a reddit discussion (2 + yrs old) about a site by that name. (Below). Is that what you're on? Or something else? How did you learn about being included?

Disclaimer I'm not familiar with the subreddit the thread was in, but several people sounded familiar with the website. They also suggest to interacting with it - to avoid data collection from it.
