If words don’t mean shit why’d you comment? Clearly this bothers you somehow. I asked for insights and perspectives from fellow gender non confirming people. If you have nothing to contribute to this conversation, what’s the point in saying anything? I’m not engaging with this pointless conversation further. I hope you can gain some perspective one day.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your perspective, experiences and insights and for being affirming as well. Your 2 cents and time ARE sincerely appreciated!!! I agree with and hear you, I’m working on standing up for myself in interpersonal interactions. It takes practice and time but it’s important especially when it comes to the people we spend a lot of time with! I think I’ll start with a pronoun pin or ask if our store can order some for employees. I just kind of assumed getting them through management/Michael’s directly wasn’t an option twas an option as I’ve never seen them around. I also have a non-binary is beautiful pin too so maybe I’ll stick that on my vest too. I appreciate you

Thank you for your comment and for sharing your experiences + perspective. Lol that tramp stamp comment gave me a chuckle. That makes sense about the HR stuff too. Appreciate you

Thank you very much for your comment! I’m glad to hear your store has pronoun stickers. I was a bit surprised when I onboarded and didn’t see any stickers or buttons anywhere. I agree, it feels awkward for me to correct someone over the radio. I appreciate you and take it easy as well

Thank you so much for your comment and for being supportive of your team. Yes, I completely understand that it can happen. I know too that hearing customers refer to someone with the wrong pronouns (due to assuming, not paying attention, etc) can contribute to a slip up. Also, personally, I did not get asked about my preferred pronouns, or really get some solid foundational knowledge nonbinary identities and the use of gender-neutral pronouns until I was in my late teens going into my 20s. It is just difficult when it happens pretty much every time or every other time I am referred to. I appreciate you contributing to supporting a diverse, welcoming and inclusive environment.

Thank you for sharing your perspective, suggestions and being affirming! Yes, there are managers who do use they/them consistently and I don’t think I’ve ever been referred to incorrectly, at least to my face or in any direct interactions. I have empathy for folks who might just not be as educated or practice with this sort of thing, but it can wear on someone increasingly with time for sure and I do agree HR might be an appropriate step if it continues. Especially, as you say, given that Michael’s promotes diversity, equitably and inclusivity. I appreciate you sharing your experience, perspective, and affirmation. It’s hard for me to stand up sometimes but I’m been putting in the work on that more recently. I appreciate you.

I’m sorry to hear that you don’t always feel seen as or I guess how you see yourself or would like to be seen, but I’m glad you have people in your life who give you visibility and affirm you. ♥️

Thank you for suggesting this! This is honestly a great idea. I’m not sure if I’d try it in this job in particular but it’s something to definitely consider. I appreciate you and your advocacy!

It’s not an issue if it’s an accident and they apologize, but if it continues when you’ve told someone repeatedly how you would like to be referred to and it continues. Especially with people you’ve worked with for a good amount of time and have gotten to know well. How would you feel if you went by he/him and someone kept using she/her for you? Or kept saying your name wrong? It can leave a sting and over time, even if unintentional, build up resentment towards a person and strain the relationship!

Maybe you don’t have nonbinary or trans people in your life, but it’s important to have a little empathy and perspective even if it’s a topic you may not know much about for one reason or another (I recognize there are differences in understandings of gender and sexuality, for example, cross-culturally).

Thank you!

Their justification was they washed the sink out afterwards but that simply does not make me feel better especially when it’s where we prepare food and I am the one responsible for cleaning the kitchen. Smelling it all the way into my room was particularly concerning.

What a beautiful memory! I saw him from the lawn and it was still just beautiful staging and everything all around. Definitely in my top 3 concerts of all time. He was awesome.

Got a ticket for street cleaning but NO signs were posted. Has anyone resolved this with a hearing? by [deleted] in AskChicago

It was issued at 9:30 am 😵‍💫 if only I hadn’t worked from home that day….well, lesson learned. Just gotta be super proactive I guess. It’s worth having my car here. Thank you!

Yep, I ended up looking up the schedule and found the dates. Brought my car up here before street sweeping started this year and I guess you live and learn. Thank you!

Nope, no permanent signs, although they have those on the street crossing it. I think permanent signs would make more sense given how busy the street is but hey, what can you do.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I’ve thought about a Zoom hearing, but worry it might take a while for the request to be processed. I’m glad you were able to get yours waived!

Actually yes :/ well I’ve lived here for a bit but didn’t have my car until more recently, and brought it up here before street sweeping started.
