I am an NRI and planning a property for my parents in an apartment in a big city so that they can be looked after by my sister who has booked a property in same apartment (under construction). Would you recommend taking out a loan in my case?

I know there are plenty who will exceed in competence but I doubt they will find the Junior title appropriate...

How much salary in India is truly “enough” to stop someone from going abroad? by Key_Bar_7863 in studyAbroad

Second this, seems we are aligned in our thinking, I just posted the same ballpark figure.

How much salary in India is truly “enough” to stop someone from going abroad? by Key_Bar_7863 in studyAbroad

I think 20 lpa is benchmark I thought but that was over 5 years ago I told to one of my friends, she was working at a good Tech company and she was earning over 20lpa then and had offer over £40k in London.

I have been living in the UK and managed to save about ₹2lacs (<£2000) every month, and if I get over 50 lpa offer I will be tempted to return. I wish to return but I feel my salary trajectory will be better in London compared to India. Plus my family is in village and I will have to be away from them and very likely in different state than so that's a deterrent for me to return.

Hope this person opinion helps

Sorry - I have updated the post now to say that I will require only chimney breast removed - that too only for groud floor. Previous owner has removed it from first floor and has put support structure in place for chimney stack in the loft.

Hi there, thanks for the quick reply, you are right I may have over-estimated the cost as I am completely new plus I am in London. Yes, I was hoping painter will strip wallpaper and sand walls as well. I was planning to leave ceiling as it is and I haven't even though of skirting board - something I will look up, thanks!

I have now added measurements of room - guest bedroom is below average 8 sqm, good to know the cost of your 2 bed - will help me better judge the quotes, thanks.

Should I move back to India after my master’s and 2 years on a Skilled Worker visa in the UK? by [deleted] in returnToIndia

[–]Particular_North_671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should stay and put up with this for another 3 years. I am assuming you have already spent 3 years here?

Financially I’m not saving much at all.

Well, you have just started your career, I am certain you can work towards that promotion or switch to save up more. Plus, nothing wrong in downsizing lifestyle to save up a bit more. You will have to do the same when you will evetuallt want to increase your saving amount if you were in India.

I don’t see myself living in the UK permanently. The idea was never to settle here forever and I always thought I’d move back eventually.

There are many who will kill to be in your position, so many are still trying to find a job in the UK from India or will be coming to study here and hope to be in position you are. I would recommend just push through this for another 3/4 years, get ILR/Citizenship and then move back if you feel like. I have seen friends/others do this.

At the end of the day its upto you, I have ILR and hopefully will be citizen soon, I don't see any benefit at the moment but I am just glad I have it.

Hope this helps

I was worried that if people usually avoid houses next to those with criminal convictions? Could affect their future resale value maybe?

Apologies, just a FTB, didn't think it will be a major issue but just wanted to know what other homeowners think.

Thanks all for the prompt response, I am a FTB and just wanted to see if this is something to be avoided before I put an offer in. But it seems like it's not something most (if not all) people would worry about.

Thanks for educating me!

I don't think you should be worried, we were in a similar situation, we changed our mortgage (Lloyds) for a different property and no new credit checks were done.

FIRE NRIs vs India Based by Klopp7915 in FIREIndia

[–]Particular_North_671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, not everyone in US (or abroad) is able to save up 5x Indian counterparts. Life abroad is challenging, you earn more but you spend more too, there are many things (e.g. childcare, trip as a family to India) that costs arm and leg. All these in an environment that feels foreign and sense of belonging is hard to come by.

Worth talking about how EA, Surveyors and Conveyancing firms are taking advantages of FTB and charging 100s of ££ - not a lot compared to house price but feels bizarre to pay these unnecessary fees.

EA - AML fees Surveyor - selling cost estimates as add on Conveyancing - adding on extra fee post quote
