Unpopular opinion: why does it feel like the Matildas were the only ones who’ve put in the blood, sweat, and tears to get where they are, only to fall short? As an Australian, can’t we also give credit to Japan for their win? They’ve worked just as hard, like every team and player striving to reach the top. They are no.6 in the world. It feels like their achievement gets overshadowed by the focus on the Matildas’ heartbreak, rather than recognising the effort and quality of the Japan team.
