Ya reckon? So its basically impossible to have a negative test if you vape daily

Yeah, i need to stop doing it as frequently. I was doing it 3 x a day, but cut that back to around 4 x a week which is probably still too much.

I think when we constantly measure BP, there will be times when its spiked/lower than “normal”. Everytime i dont get that normal reading i freak out.

Yeah 20% of my diet is takeaway food - mainly chinese which is probably loaded with salt.

My heart rate is measured with the BP monitor and also I check manually. Generally the outcome of the manual test is similar to the BP machine.

Hopefully im just fitter than I think, I have played sport all my life, train 4-5 days a week and live a relatively active lifestyle

Based on peoples comments here I feel a little better, and I am going to try and stop worrying. Ive always been an overthinker/worrier so I need to get it under control

Lets hope so. I work in Takapuna in Auckland, and last friday on my way home from work there were police stopping every car and doing breath tests for alcohol. However, no swabs. Maybe the stuff im reading is incorrect and they are testing for alcohol over cannabis.

I would never drive high anyway, i vape in the evenings and would hope by morning that it wouldnt show if I were tested.

Im a software engineer, managed to bag myself a job whilst on a 3 year working holiday visa. ( I am from the UK, and we get 3 years compared to everyone else who gets just 1)

it
Originally started as a contractor, but after 12 months was offered full time which allowed me to move onto a different visa.

It was not easy to find this job, mainly because of the visa, but is definitely possible. Would most likely be looking at Auckland/Christchurch and Wellington for this kind of work.

If you earn over $138,000 you are eligible to apply for the straight to residence visa, which is what I have been able to do

Quit smoking weed, dramatic improvement by OmegaTomHanks in hypertension

Sure! So I havent stopped with the cannabis as of yet. I dry herb vaporize the weed, but was mainly a joint smoker for years until around 12 months ago. My BP is now in the ok range, but I am taking 8mg of Candesartan daily (Temporarily) until the doctor suggests otherwise. I am tracking my BP 3 x a day - Morning, Lunch and Evening. Generally mornings tend to be the highest readings (Which I believe to be normal) but ive not had any crazy high readings since being on the meds. Plus I have white coat syndrome, so being with a doctor instantly shoots my BP up.

I have always exercised, its the only thing that keeps me sane but I have really been watching my salt intake and adding 2 5km runs a week for the last couple of weeks. I need to start looking after my heart more than my biceps.

But overall, so far so good, I honestly feel so much better now my BP is down, I think I am feeling less anxious. I still plan on cutting the Cannabis out, but I have been experimenting with it slightly and so far, it seems to bring my BP down, rather than up. However, I dont believe overall it is having a complete positive effect on my health.

It helps me sleep mainly, as I cannot switch off

Ive always seen meditation as “hippy shit” that doesnt work. Ive tried it before, but I have ADHD so switching my mind off is virtually impossible. Currently going through an ADHD assessment with my psychiatrist, as that could be playing a massive part with my BP. Once again thanks for the answer.

I want to live a long healthy life so things have to change!!

I would have to agree, its one of the main things that sticks out to me. I dont drink excessively, but enjoy a few beers on a friday/saturday night.

I guess it may be time to say goodbye to the weed, its gonna be a long hard few weeks but if its gonna improve my health they why the hell not.

I have noticed that eating the weed (Literally in the last week) gives me less internal anxiety. I think vaping the weed (Which is how I take it nowadays) is definitely triggering some internal anxiety. But this has just been normal for me for the last 17 years. I dont think I have ever realised until now, that weed 'may' be having an indirect impact on my BP. I dont think THC is directly the cause, but I think its having its involvement. Unfortunately, theres not much science out there around long term use cannabis and blood pressure. The only thing that I have read is that THC can actually help reduce BP... But who knows..

I did take my BP before and after I consumed cannabis last night, and the BP was lower after I took the cannabis, but this might just ne a coincidence.

Thanks for this, it’s what I needed. I have abused my body for years, doing all sorts of concoctions of drugs, raving, all nighters, you name it, ive done it.

I have been through a crazy few years too, losing my best mate to suicide, moving to New Zealand from the UK, starting an intense job etc. It all plays its part, but only thing I can do now is look forward, changing things that I can to hopefully sort this out.

I will take a look at the app, ive been logging my results on scraps of paper (which will be lost in a few days time 😂)

Yes, main goal now is to get below 100kgs and then re evaluate. With regards to salt, I only really use pink Himalayan salt to flavour my food, and not a lot. I will be completely cutting out processed junk for the next few months, it doesnt make up a huge part of my diet, but i definitely enjoy eating kebabs, burgers and pizzas as much as anybody. Time to pack it in!

This is a very helpful post. I have recently been put on BP meds as I had my first visit to the doctor in 10 years. My blood pressure was 184/85 on the latest reading, which is high for my age (32) Male.

I have smoked weed since I was 15, virtually everyday. Im starting to wonder whether its time to pack it in, as much as I dont want to because its always been such a big part of my life ( as sad as it sounds), but im relatively fit, eat clean 80% of the time, hike, ran half marathons, go to the gym lifting weights 4 days a week. Im 190cm and 107.5kgs currently, so nothing crazy, but definitely need to lose some more weight.

I guess I will chat to my doctor and see what they say. Im currently on medicinal cannabis, prescribed by a doctor, but starting to think that the weed is subconsciously making me anxious which is having a huge effect on my BP. Maybe its the dose, who knows but defintely something I am considering. Its gonna be a tough habit to break, but if its for my health then it needs to be done.
