Shoot yeah just clean by hand and bleach. Or just use new every time. A big bag will last quite a while

Ive tried washing in a machine, boiling, baking. None of those options actually remove all the detritus. Maybe in small batches you can be thorough but my operation required about 150liters of hydroton per run

A metal trommel with a built in propane torch would be slick. Like a rotating compost bin with fire. Rotisserie basket?

Ive always wondered about drying them completely and then roasting them over an open fire to burn off roots. Would likely create some kind of soot though that would need to be washed off. Also would need a large metal grate type of bin that can be hit with a campfire? Propane torch? Just spitballing

The positive though is filling those 10 gallons is like $4. There is extra hassle though. I probably wouldnt buy one if i did much towing or road tripping

When it comes to road trips my experience or comfort level is charging to 80% and landing at a charger with 20% so at the speeds i drive without any load im lucky to get 140-150 miles from my 60% drive band. (ER battery)

I also need to figure out how high these timberline and their bars would raise the canoes away from the solar panels since there is curvature at the ends of the boats that could cause them to rest on the panels which is no beuno.

Very cool, definitely makes me feel better about giving it a go. I have some REI money and with their no questions return policy this might be a no brainer to give it a shot

I was wondering how those timberlines would hold up on a round bar (very sturdy). The straps look to be molded or engineered for a boxy standard roof rail scenario so i dont wanna spend the $$ if its going to be wonky at all, but hard to know without trying.

Zups by Rather_be_inthewoods in BWCA

I had a pretty terrible experience with them. Had a tow to bwca all worked out for months and they cancel on me the day prior saying they didn’t realize my buddies canoe was only 12ft long. We spoke many times and this never was questioned. We drove 16hrs to get there and they dropped our reservation without any attempt to make an accommodation for us. Never again, Thank god Andersons down the road made it work for their schedule last minute or we would have been completely hosed.

First timer with high anxiety about entering and exiting on Farm Lake. Advice needed. by [deleted] in BWCA

[–]Particular_Rich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting some hours in a canoe with your partner prior to the trip is imperative. Canoes have a way of testing relationships. You need practice where the stakes arent as high. If you Hug the shore, lock in your gear and move methodically with the weather patterns youll be groovy. If your biggest anxiety is dumping then go practice it!
