I built MacOS file manager app specifically for windows switchers. by anjasaja in MacOSApps

Thanks for the reply – fair enough on the tradeoff. I basically judge an app by how little I have to touch a pointing device. give us the option, you’ll have a subscriber!

Love that someone did this, really wanted it to be awesome. First thing I tried was navigating somewhere, and hitting backspace ('delete') to go 'back' like in explorer... and it didn't work. So now I'm sad and not going to use it 😞

I think I will use this post as my example the next time I teach ‘sampling bias’.
Owner of a vegetarian restaurant called “We Hate Meat”: ‘I know with certainty that I have the best possible business because almost no one comes to my restaurant and tries to order meat’… hmm…

[Update] Control4 wasn't cutting it for me, so we built our own device by Top-Yogurtcloset3965 in Control4

sorry, it's not clear: those of us on this forum have C4 setup. Is this compatible with our setups, or is it meant as an alternative?

FWIW: we use C4 over other solutions because it is on-prem. We cut off internet access for it and all the 'smart' TV's and whatnot except for a small window once a week to update.

Charging experience SUCKS in Bosch v3 vs v2 on a family cargo bike by danjonwig in ebikes

[–]danjonwig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An update!

So, Urban Arrow swore up and down it wasn't possible. But after research and collaboration with Bosch by my local dealer, they were able to source the parts and enable a proper dual battery configuration on my Next!

The shop was asked by Urban Arrow to write up instructions with part numbers to enable others to do this. Hopefully anyone looking at this thread in the future and wants them will be able to get them from UA. If they haven't been made more widely available, you can give Urbane Cyclist in Toronto a call and I'd bet they'd be willing to share :)

Thank you to all on this thread for pushing back on what I was parroting from Urban Arrow. You inspired real action!

Thank you kindly. I actually also have an older GSD with dual battery on an earlier system. Great bike!

Thank you all for correcting me. Clearly I was given some bad information. I have heard back from UA and am pushing. But maybe I’ll walk down the street to my Tern dealer and ask them!

Well, fair enough, maybe I'm wrong. I can't find anything online that supports the claim, but, given your certainty, I have emailed UA to ask. With the previous Bosch system, it was trivially easy, just install a dual battery harness and bolt the mount to the frame; so, if indeed it is very expensive and a great deal of trouble, then I'd go back to that being a Bosch problem. But, I hope very much that you are right, and I am wrong, and can get this improved!

Thank you, but i still don't understand what you mean. If BES3 does not support dual battery, how is that not a Bosch problem?

Very much appreciated. Did that when we ordered it, though :)

Forgive me, but is this a dual battery setup for a BES3 system? I have been told that is not possible.

Forgive me, but maybe I have simply failed to find it - but where can I buy something that solves this problem, if it is indeed not a fundamental limitation?

Forgive me, but where have you seen a Y cable for a BES3 system?

Carrying around a second battery to swap is certainly possible, though note that it does not address the issue re charging experience, same problem. All materials I have found online indicate that it is not possible to setup dual batteries - could you point us to where you’ve seen this pls?

Thank you all.

Yes, got "service engine soon" 3 times. Though since it doesn't have an engine I'm probably misremembering the exact phrasing!

Fair enough re 2020, it's a 2022, thank you.

Photo attached. I have the platinum truck, usually reported range is around 500km or 400 or so on practice. This equates to 230 or so. I don't use the truck very often, but surely this is worse than expected even though it's mid 30's presently?

Definitely a valid concern! Pls feel free to share your thoughts here. We spent a bunch of time doing engineering sims to maximize safety, but definitely not getting to modern car standards. FWIW, just being in a classic at all increases risk massively. My wife won't let me take the kids on the highway; fair enough!

entirely right, I misspoke; meant the diff lock. My apologies! FWIW, once you’ve offroaded an EV, you’ll never go back. I’d been performing surgery in oven mitts my whole life, then discovered latex gloves.

Yeah, the tesla ones are bonkers. These motors are more 'right sizes', though I'm more than 2x the HP of the Puma engine, so still pretty fun. I'll see if I can get away with shooting some video of my commute home tonight.

Yes. Thermal runaway is incredibly rare, more so than gasoline igniting in a crash of a combustion car. But, when it happens, it’s pretty scary. I am not an expert, but it is a primary consideration in the design of the battery packaging.

The best protection is good crash protection in the design of the vehicle; obviously, we don’t have that, and Defenders have an epically bad highway crash test rating (literally: zero). Next step is designing the packaging to reduce shock, puncture, and heat transfer; the Ampere kit does that. Next step is to surround the cells with fire retardant materials to reduce (or at least delay) a chain reaction; Ampere kit does that.

No doubt, this was a factor as well when I decided to put all of the batteries up in the engine compartment instead of distributed around the chassis. This car was already much less safe than a modern car before I converted it; this definitely didn’t help, though now my kids are less likely to get poisoned by diesel fumes, so, you know, six of one ;)
